Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

For sale is our 2012 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi campervan. The van was imported from Brazil by Danbury Campervans, a Somerset-based firm with a 60-year history, and converted to right-hand drive then fitted out in their ‘Diamond’ specification, as detailed below. The van seats 5 and has 4 berths.

Volkswagen continued to make Type 2 Kombi vans in Brazil up until 2013 so the engine is a modern 1.4 litre, watercooled one capable of running on E10 petrol. The engine is economical and runs around 38mpg. There were several other internal improvements made over and above the original vans that have been in production since the late 1960s.

About our van
We are the second owners of the van and we bought it from my sister and brother-in-law who first bought it from Danbury and had it specced from new. It has been well cared for over the years and we have made a substantial number of upgrades and improvements to it. We’ve also repaired some minor bits of corrosion to the metal body and kept it stored in an indoor, dry storage facility when not in use.

We are selling it due to changing priorities as a family and we’d rather another owner got to enjoy the van than it sit in storage.

Key details
* The van has been driven just over 39,000 miles (62900kms, which is what’s on the dashboard)
* I have both original keys
* It has Litesteer power-steering which makes a very positive difference to the handling
* Under 1000 miles ago we re-upholstered all seats with two-tone grey leather
* We also fitted new tires around the same time
* We have recently spent over £2000 to repair corrosion, have under-seal rust protection applied to the underside, have the oil changed and more
* It passed its MOT last September with no issues aside from an advisory for the rear LED strip light which I have since fixed
* it’s fitted with Empi ‘slot mag’ alloy wheels, two of which were recently refurbished to remove some light kerb damage
* we replaced the leisure battery a month ago with a brand new one
* we have retained a lot of the paperwork detailing the work carried out

Upgrades since we bought it
As well as the above, we have also:
* upgraded the gearbox with better German-made components, with the work carried out by a gearbox specialist
* replaced the original gear stick with a better one with a reverse-lever trigger
* upgraded the interior lighting with LED lights
* upgraded the stereo to one with bluetooth connection
* upgraded the speakers in the van at the same time
* replaced the rear flooring with one that’s much harder-wearing
* upgraded the frame for the rock and roll bed so it’s smoother to use
* upgraded the leisure battery electronics so that it charges when driving and also charges the main battery when connected to the hookup
* replaced the original curtains with colour-matching blackout ones

Condition
The van is in a really nice condition and the outside has recently been refurbished with minor corrosion repair, under-seal rust protection reapplied to the bottom and a deep clean. There are no major marks, dents or scratches of note and it looks very clean.

Inside is also in excellent condition with recently reupholstered seats and well kept units. There is no damage to the flooring or any of the internal panels. The front cab and front dash are in lovely condition with no damages. The only thing to note is some light staining to the pop-top canvas visible on the inside and some very small holes at the rear end of the canvas. This can be repaired or replaced with a canvas colour of your choosing for less than £500 fitted, but it’s not needed and you could enjoy the van as is.
