VW Caddy
For sale is our 2012 Volkswagen Caddy 1.6TDI.
We bought this camper specifically for a 3-month trip around Europe, which we are currently on. It will be available on our return to the UK on 20th June. When we return the van will have done ~100,000 miles but I will update this when we’re back.
We are the 4th owners of the van, the first being BT, then the 2x prior to us. We purchased it with around 92,000miles. We have all the service books and manuals etc.
We could possibly deliver the camper anywhere in the UK on our return, so please contact us if you are interested and we can arrange a remote viewing and discuss possible delivery.
Prior to purchasing it, we had a full professional vehicle inspection carried out (report available), checked the history to ensure no write-off status (report available) and the car was serviced and MOT’d for the year (exp Feb 2026).
Since purchasing it, we have:
Installed a leisure battery (115aH deep cycle AGM)
Installed a Victron 75:15 MPPT + 185W Victron solar panel on the roof (installed on the roof racks so can be removed if need be – only 1 hole cut into the roof) to power the leisure battery off-grid
Installed a Renology 20A DC:DC charger (installed through a gromet with the main wiring loom – no holes cut into the fire wall).
Had it Crit Air 3 certified for driving in France and Switzerland and certified for driving in Germany.
The van will come with everything we’ve purchased to live in the car for our 3-month trip including all cutlery + cookware, cleaning products, bedding (foam cushions + mattress topper), linen, 2x portable stoves, camping chairs + table, levelling chocks, Alpicool 20L 12V fridge, EU driving kit including headlamp stickers, rear UK sticker, FM transmitter for the radio, rechargeable LED lights etc. and probably more I’ve forgotten.
The bed in the back of the van is an expanding bench type as pictured, it fits both myself and my partner who are 171 and 173cm tall. If you are any taller than this, you probably won’t fit two people on the bed.
The conversion was done by the previous owner including bulkhead removal, full insulation and cladding and bed installation.
There are some things to note about the van besides ensuring you will fit on the bed:
It is not ULEZ compliant so can’t be driven in Central London without paying a daily tax.
The vehicle inspection showed a few minor non-urgent things that needed addressing including a turbo outlet leak (it passed MOT with this) and journal bearing on the sliding side door has perished resulting in less than smooth operation and some corrosion around the struts not affecting operation, ~£5xx.xx was spent on it prior to passing MOT.
It is limited to 70mph owing to his history as a BT service van – this is fine for the UK but a consideration when driving in the EU. We kept it limited for fuel economy and it hasn’t been an issue at all on the big highways – it can be de-limited very easily by purchasing an OBD11 for £80.00 yourself.
It’s a pretty bare bones van, it has cruise control and remote central locking but no aircon or power windows. I’ve done all the electrical stuff myself so the install is no frills – happy to talk through everything and send more photos!
We are negotiable on the price as we are hoping to have this sold quickly on our return before we return to Australia!
Expandable bed / seat, sleeps 2 adults, max 175cm tall
