Vw Crafter MWB Startline, 136 BHP
2L Diesel, 6 speed gearbox. On the motorway fully laden I sit at just over 30mpg consistently. On tanks where i run around town or go cycling locally my mgp drops to about 28mpg.
The engine has some service history though i have recently had the cam belt done by a local garage. The brakes have been changed front and rear in the last year giving a nice pedal feel. Not the usual from a crafter. I have also replaced the track rod ends and fitted 4 new tyres. The van spent time previously as a delivery van so did have some dinks and chips. I have since had the vehicle sorted and painted to make it look less like a panel van.
The conversion has been carried out by 3 different companies along the way as the initial build happened and then it evolved over time.
The headlights have also been upgraded so now have DRL halo’s and brighter high beams.
The front double is on a swivel.
“VanCon conversions” fitted the windows and then the initial bed, insulation and carpeting. They also set the split charge/12v and 240v electrics. They fitted an Autoterm diesel heater.
I then removed the bed and rebuild it out of lightweight aluminium. I also fit a roof rack, solar panels and external lighting.
I had the kitchen unit built by Van55. This includes a top opening fridge, hob, sink, drawer and cupboards.
I fitted the shower and had a purpose built tray and underslung waste tank built for me and added an iMass water heater (combi boiler)
I built a shelf with a USB port above the bed.
Under the bed to the rear fits three adult MTB’s and leaves plenty of space for kit, there are also overhead lockers and plenty of storage spaces within the van.
The rear fixed bed was built sideways with side extender pods from A2B conversions. Ideal for a solo traveller or a couple. It sits at a small double UK size. The initial plan was to fit a RnR bed also which would fit on the floor.
