RENAULT KANGOO 865 1.9D
RENAULT KANGOO
These small diesel vans with the 1.9 litre engine and power assisted steering are a dream to drive in town or motorway, easy to park, good driver visibility, economical 45mpg, and fast acceleration for get-away at roundabouts and overtaking. The fact that the van has a camper conversion in no way detracts from its use as a family runabout car. This is the way I have used the van for the last 12 years with the added bonus of being able to kip in a car park after medical appointments in London, shopping trips and so forth. And dare I say it, in the odd pub carpark on Friday nights! My sister lives in Scotland and what a bonus it is to be able to save the cost of accommodation en route nor the stress of reaching a prebooked hotel by the check-in time.
The van has low mileage for its age 76,800 miles, with good service history (cam belt was changed at 70,000 miles), and has all the normal equipment: radio/cassette player, driver’s airbag, handbooks, 2 anti theft chipped keys, spare wheel, wheel changing jack and lug wrench (never needed touch wood)!
The van is DVLA V5 described as Car Derived Van and is a ROO2 POP-TOP conversion by JC Leisure Ltd prior to first registration on 21.6.1999.
I am the second owner and bought the van from Renault on 22.10.2000 with 9500 miles. Over the next decade I added about 50,000 to the clock and then having retired I ran the van for only a further 16,000 miles over the following decade during which I used it as a run about car rather than a camper. Always parked off road and for 10 years in my basement. Since October 2013 the van was based until end 2020 at our second home near Calais and was thus serviced by official French Renault agencies. I have a complete record of service history. The van has never had any accidental damage or been in a crash.

NOTES REGARDING VEHICLE CONDITION
As a 21 year old camper van it has marks etc commensurate with age. Nothing too serious but someone used to a shiny new car might think it a bit shabby. There is no evident rust and regrettably there are a few carelessly made touch ups with a paint brush to hide or protect the odd scratch or stone dent.
The equipment and conversion fittings are pretty much as JC Leisure left it with these exceptions. #1. As I considered it stupid to have a 12volt leiesure system installed just for one strip light and sink cold water tap when the leisure battery died I did not replace it and by 2010 LEDs were cheap so I used hanging LED lanterns and used water from 2 litre milk jugs. A hand pump would be more practical. #2. The big table that came with the conversion was heavy and hard to manage. I junked it and found a small folding table more practical as it could be used inside the van or outside in fine weather. #3. The central locking is inoperative but could be fixed with new £30 solenoids in two doors – and very fiddly work which I tried to fix and failed. As a result I can not assure a buyer that the electric door locking mechanisms are in perfect condition but they work okay with keys.
#4. There is space for a Porta Potti but we preferred to use the forest, supermarket or campground loos. #5. The van has a split charger fitted that charges the leisure battery. As I have not used this for ten years I cannot guarantee it works.
MOT mileage history shows that the camper did 60 thousand miles in its first decade and only 16 thousand in its second. Its VIN is VF1FCDC0EAF19257353 if any potential buyer wants to see MOT details on DVLA website.
As Querky points out every camper is different but an old micro camper like mine is a trade off for the obvious advantages of price, fuel economy, easy parking against spending £20k or £40 to have the luxury of more generous space, TV, heating, sanitary facilities and many other benefits allowing one to get right off the beaten track and camp in relative comfort. One can still do this with a micro camper but it means filling up the van with tents, tables and chairs etc. (It is evident to me that it would be possible to fit a custom made roof rack to carry such kit outside the van but it would have to be removed to open the poptop).
We have owned bigger rigs and regretfully sold our last VW 1971 Westfalia Camper because at 5 metres long it would not fit in our semi detached for-court.
DELIVERY AND PAYMENT
I will not sell this van to a buyer who has not personally inspected the van and decided it is what he or she wants and its mechanical conditional and general condition is acceptable as once the vehicle has been sold there is no refund or warranty offered by me except of course the legal position if it is determined my description of the vehicle has been intentionally misleading or in any way fraudulent.
To secure a sale I will hold the van for a potential buyer for a full week against a deposit which I will fully refund immediately and without question if the buyer changes their mind and withdraws from the sale or fails to complete the sale within the week.
