A classic early bay with a modern twist. VW with Subaru engine 🙌🏼

For sale a 1970 VW T2 Bay Camper.

In great condition and in the best colour combination, with a rare roof rack and awning and the added bonus of a 2.0 Subaru boxer engine conversion completed in 2014, giving you a modern powertrain to go along with the classic look. MOT and tax exempt. Mileage shows 19,300 (approx 18k miles on engine prior to conversion). Van is a LHD import (imported in 2014) which means it doesn’t have the rust of UK versions. The underside has been wax oiled to help protect it and is in great condition.

Subaru 2.0l boxer engine conversion was completed in 2014 by J’s Garage who specialise in Subaru engine conversions into VW campers. Runs and drives well and has been maintained well with receipts to show recent work which includes a new water pump, thermostat and timing belt tensioner. Brakes have also had a recent overhaul with receipts to show new shoes, new cylinders, as well as a new steering box. All put together means it drives really well.

The blue paint is in good condition and has recently had a flat and polish. Some small bubbling on the lower door edges is visible but has not come through and would be an easy fix. Chrome is in really good condition and white roof and bumpers really set the Van off. Very rare roof rack has been fitted and an even rarer camper awning is sold with the van, although this hasn’t been used recently (worth £600+) White painted wheels with chrome hubcaps also really suit the van. Pictures don’t really do it justice and the van turns heads everywhere it goes.

Inside there are blue leather seats and door cards with white stitching in great condition with no marks or tears. Black dash in the front with a modern radio, recently repaired and working heater. Original working speedo and an additional temperature for the Subaru engine. Unfortunately the fuel gauge does not work.

Hesian carpet set in the front and checkerboard vinyl flooring in the rear, blue leather seats carry on in the rear with some additional storage boxes and a removable table that mounts to the side wall. The rear seat also folds flat so that it can be used as a bed or for additional storage. Roof liner has some small tears and marks from use, particularly around the rear boot hinges which is typical for these.

So a rare VW bay camper in great condition, in the best colour combination, with a modern engine conversion that means it drives like it should! Prices of these are rising with the recent staycation boom with plenty for sale for £20k+.
