Is it your dream to explore landscapes, get back in touch with nature and create lasting memories whilst having your own beautiful wood cabin to return home to at the end of each day? Well, here is our answer to making that dream a reality. Introducing ‘Frode’, the latest professional campervan conversion by family company Good Vibe Vans Ltd.

This handcrafted camper is bursting with rustic charm and whimsical character; the perfect base for any adventure and on the less adventurous days, a warm and welcoming environment to relax and unwind or snuggle up in with a good book/wine/both!

During this build we have tried to strike a balance between using environmentally friendly materials (reclaimed, upcycled, locally sourced) and practical, hard-wearing materials that will ensure you can enjoy this van for many years to come. All the visible wood came to us as pallet wood that we have lovingly restored plank by plank and coated with Osmo Polyx-oil – a water resistant, hard-wearing, breathable and environmentally friendly wood finish. As we wanted to celebrate the beauty of nature’s resources in this build it felt right giving this discarded timber a ‘second life’. Frode is fully insulated with 100mm synthetic wool fibre and foil bubble wrap vapour barrier in the walls and high performance 25mm foil faced PIR insulation board on the floor and ceiling and all are lined with lightweight and sustainable poplar plywood.

The main living area has a large galley kitchen with generous prep space on the waney edge, solid wood counter top, handmade by us from locally sourced Charnwood Forest oak. The cabinetry is fronted with the reclaimed pallet wood and carcasses built with poplar ply, helping to keep the overall van weight low. The dining area consists of a large bench seat situated by the sliding door which has a large opening window, enabling you to enjoy the beautiful views of your park up when dining and lounging come rain or shine. Underneath the bench seat is a storage area and the electrical compartment. This van is designed for off-grid use and the details of the electrics are as follows:

2 solar panels with a combined wattage of 320w

Victron energy MPPT, Solar Charge Controller and battery to battery charger

260AHr leisure battery

1500w pure sine wave inverter.

80L Dometic fridge freezer

Voyager 4500 gas cooker with grill, 2 burner hob and electronic ignition

Large copper sink repurposed from a vintage jam pan

Decorative brass mixer tap

Easily accessible 25L grey water tank and drop out for optional waste water drainage

Heaps of storage provided by a variety of different sized kitchen drawers all on soft close drawer runners

Overhead cupboards (for even more storage!)

The bathroom is comparatively large for this size of van, measuring 1 meter across. Stepping through the solid wood edged and braced door you are met with a green onyx feature wall made by Reco surfaces, a high performance, lightweight and maintenance free acrylic panelling. The surrounding 3 walls are also lined with Reco in a classic white tiled effect. Inside the bathroom there is:

Frode also comes equipped with an extra hot and cold external shower point, ideal for rinsing off sports equipment, muddy dogs and sandy feet.

From the kitchen the eye is drawn to the bedroom through a sweeping archway. The bedroom is accessed easily by a permanent and a second pull-out step. A neutral toned, padded headboard set into a feature wood clad wall creates a space that is cosy and inviting. The bedroom also has many practical features including:

Custom handmade tartan curtains and blinds with blackout lining (present throughout van)

Remote control mounted for ‘Maxx fan’ ventilation fan and extractor situated in the centre of the van

Lastly we come to underneath the bed, an area commonly known as the ‘garage’. This is a large space perfect for storing outside furniture and sporting equipment. It is equipped with:

Truma combi 4E air and water heater

With so many unique features this truly is a very special and bespoke build. It has been a real passion project for our small team and we are excited for Frode to start a new life of adventures and be loved by someone just as much as we love him, maybe even more!
