A beautifully crafted and unique campervan conversion, ready for new adventures! Bilbo is a 2016 Citroën Relay XL wheelbase (L4H3), ULEZ compliant, and equipped with everything you need for comfortable off-grid living. We bought and converted Bilbo in summer 2023 with 100,000 miles on the clock, and he will have about 125,000 at the time of sale. At least 75% of the miles we did in Bilbo were on motorways, resulting in minimal wear and tear on the vehicle. Bilbo has a diesel engine, so he has plenty of life left in him (magic ring not included).

Conversion Description

Every aspect of this home on wheels was built with sustainability and comfort in mind. Whether you’re heading for the Shire, the Misty Mountains, or a simple cosy retreat, Bilbo is the perfect blend of rustic aesthetics and modern technology.

Design features
– Vintage-style hardy external coach paint (jars for touch-ups included but we haven’t needed them since we painted the van)
– Spacious interior dimensions with a height of 205cm — perfect even for the tallest of hobbits and elves!
– Very sturdy carpentry throughout — we focused on durability in our build and never had anything fall apart!
– Waterproof eco-laminate flooring — extremely durable and spill-proof
– SumoSprings for reinforced suspension and added stability
– High-quality reclaimed wooden cladding (sanded down to 7mm to reduce weight) and wany edge countertops, treated using non-toxic wood stain, oil and beeswax
– Beautiful wooden archway in the entrance (removable if you prefer a different doorway into Middle-earth)
– Botanical fabrics from a small business in Devon
– Vintage cabinet handles and hooks
– Botanical backsplash tiles, handmade by an artist in Warsaw
– Sand-coloured linen curtains with wooden curtain rods for privacy
– Large windowsills for coffee cups, house plants and books
– Natural jute rope and wall-mounted plant pots for a cosy feel
– Hanging storage for fruit & veg to maximise space
– High-quality plastic panel on the sliding door (to keep things clean when cooking with the door closed)

Tech Features
– 5kWh Ecoflow Independence Kit with external monitor (worth £6,000)
– 70amp alternator charging capacity (charges the leisure battery at over 900W while driving, or just under 20% per hour of driving)
– Option to replace the current electrical system with a cheaper one for a price reduction
– 400W Ecoflow solar panel on the roof for off-grid adventures
– Starlink Gen 2 satellite kit for high-speed WiFi in even the most remote locations
– Worth £500 — can be removed for a price reduction
– 4G router and external antenna for reliable internet access (lower energy use)
– 4 plug sockets (including two double sockets with USB ports)

Kitchen Area
– Running water system with integrated particle & drinking water filters for peace of mind
– 96 litre underslung water tank (exterior access) and a 60 litre grey water tank — keeping you supplied without taking up interior space
– Isotherm 12V fridge with freezer (49L)
– Large drawers** for food storage and utensils
– Food storage jars under the cabinets for extra storage & a magical apothecary feel
– 12L bin and storage for cleaning products under the sink

– Storage nets by the door for shoes

Bathroom
– Waterproof & space-saving RolDour sliding door for privacy

– Water-saving bidet shower
– Robust shower tray (75x75cm)
– Marble-look wall panels – elegant, lightweight, and waterproof
– Full-body mirror wall for a spacious feel
– Skylight for ventilation
– Lots of shelving for bathroom products, soaps, towels and toothbrushes

Security
– Large safe for valuables bolted into the floor under the bed
– Heavy-duty external lock on the back doors
– Window alarms on two windows (triggered by vibration of breaking glass)
– Possibility to install camera system connected to 4G router

Imperfections & Considerations
– Slight gap in the back doors — we just use a curtain, but an extra seal could be added
– Some wonky carpentry — a little bit of hobbit charm!
– No hot water, but a boiler could be installed under the sink (we used to have one there)
– Small remnants of old paint in hard-to-reach corners — mostly unnoticeable unless you look closely
– The golden colour of the bidet shower has oxidised around the edges, but this doesn’t impact its functionality
– Some small marks and dents on the bathroom wall panels, in particular behind the toilet (only visible when the toilet is removed and doesn’t impact functionality)
– The cab is painted beige and brown, the paint is varnished but can occasionally chip (paint bottles for touch-ups provided)
– The corners by the back doors are currently covered by scarves, but will be replaced with lightweight plywood before handover for a neater look
– Work we had done on Bilbo since we bought him:
– New battery (December ‘23)
– New rear brake pads (April ‘24)
– New electric locking system (December ‘24)
