Conversion Description

Beautifully finished Mercedes Sprinter MWB conversion – fully-equipped for two people to have some amazing off-grid adventures!

We are selling our beloved Sprinter van conversion, Strobie, after having some amazing adventures together over the last couple of years. Heโ€™s been our home, our car and our office for two years now, and heโ€™s taken us all over the UK and Europe. We would love to travel in him forever, but we are now in the process of moving to Spain so unfortunately for bureaucratic reasons we canโ€™t keep him!

Strobie (named after his orange hazard strobe lights) is perfect for extended off-grid stays in a range of climates – the extensive insulation keeps the van cool in hot weather but when combined with the LPG heater, also provides for a comfortable stay in sub-zero temperatures. The solar and battery system have always given us everything we need – although there is a split charge system and professionally fitted 240v hook-up, we have never needed either of them!

Strobie also does very well as a stealth camper (no graphics, awnings, chimneys etc). Weโ€™ve slept unnoticed all over the place with no problems, including many a night on the streets of central London!

We obviously think the van looks beautiful, but we also made sure to optimise for functionality and livability – thereโ€™s no point looking great on Instagram but not actually enjoying daily life in your van! The sofa is huge and comfortable, the kitchen is a genuinely nice place to cook dinner, and the Lagun swivel-mount table means you can eat, work and play in a range of different seating positions. We were careful to include a range of indirect lighting options too, so the van always feels homely and cosy when youโ€™re inside.

We also made sure to include all the necessities, such as a large pedal bin and a self-built composting toilet. The toilet is fully portable so you can take it with the van or replace it with a chemical toilet if you prefer. We decided not to install a dedicated shower, but the tap extends out of the back door so is perfect for a quick rinse on summer trips.

The van itself has also been an excellent choice – it has never let us down over 25,000 miles, and the MWB has made our lives so much easier both for urban use and also offroading (compared to a LWB). It seems to have had a pretty easy former life as a cabling van, comes with a full Mercedes service history to 2020 and appears to have been kept inside for its whole life. It just sailed through its MOT again so is sorted until 2 June 2023.

Finally, we did a huge amount of research and really spent the time to do conversion properly – the walls, floor and ceiling are all fully insulated, all the holes we made in the metalwork have been rust-proofed and we even removed the side trim to painstakingly seal all of the attachment holes (apparently one of the main causes of serious panel rust in Sprinter vans).

Full details of the conversion are included below. If you think Strobie could be the van for you – please send us a message. We want Strobie to find a good home so will consider all sensible offers from the right people!

***Viewings: the van is currently in South Devon (near Plymouth) but please do get in touch even if you’re somewhere else – we might be able to work something out!***
