Experience off-grid van life with our beloved 2016 Ford Transit Conversion.
We bought the van in 2020 and spent a year converting it into a campervan, before heading off on a two-year adventure around the UK and Europe. Weβve had the best time of our lives in this campervan, but itβs time for us to explore further afield.
Working as digital nomads for the last two years has been possible thanks to its off-grid capabilities, including a large solar array, lithium batteries and robust 12v system with inverter. If youβre looking for a way to work on the road (or power movie marathons on weekends away), our van might be the perfect fit for you.
KEY FEATURES
π Style
The scandi style design, with dark wood surfaces and white walls and cabinets, feels both rustic and modern at the same time. With plenty of neutral colours it leaves ample space to add your own personality and flair.
π Living Area
The main living area consists of a raised, large, horseshoe shaped seating area around a removable solid wood table. This then converts down into a 160cm x 180cm double bed, with plenty of room for two, plus a smaller child and/or dog! Space for a TV on the wall makes this a cosy area to tuck into and enjoy a film on a rainy night in.
π Kitchen
With large amounts of countertop space and a modern double-burner gas hob, Itβs easy to prep and cook up plenty of delicious meals. The large full-size sink with hot water makes washing up a breeze, and the sizable fridge + freezer combo allows for the storage of plenty of fresh food and the occasional ice cream in the summer months!
π Shower/Bathroom
At the front of the van is a walled off shower/wetroom area, providing privacy for a portable chemical toilet, and a place to clean off after your outdoor adventures. The off-grid electric hot water system provides enough water for a hot shower wherever you might be.
π Storage
The van features built-in upper cabinets to store kitchenware, and an accessible full-length shelf for all your daily grabs. The lower cabinets provide additional storage for food, clothes and cleaning supplies. Above the cab we have installed a parcel shelf where we usually place our bedding during the day.
In the benches youβll be able to access the electrical system, the water tank with plumbing, and store all of the extra blankets and plush cushions you could ever need. At the back of the van, the garage provides plenty of room for adventuring kit (we had several paddleboards!) as well as hookup cables, hoses and spare gas canisters.
π Partition Wall
A large, insulated partition wall between the cab and living area provides extra security against potential break-ins, hiding your belongings from prying eyes and adding an extra barrier against entry. It also keeps you warm in winter, stopping those large cab windows from sucking the heat out and ruining your cosy night in.
π Off-Grid Capabilities
With a large amount of solar, plenty of battery capacity and a sizable fresh water tank, you can save plenty of money on campsites during your travels! We spent 3 months in the Alps last summer without needing to hook up once, powering our lives completely through the sun. Running our laptops for work, hot water for showers, the fridge on full power and the TV almost every night. Even spending the majority of our winters in Scotland we only needed to stop at a campsite once a week!
π Electrical System
With our requirements to work off-grid, we built a robust electrical system to power all our devices, including laptops for nearly 8-9 hours a day. With 200ah of Lithium batteries (and an empty space to easily add another 100ah), and 525W of solar to charge them, we rarely had issues with power. The 2000W inverter also gives you the flexibility to power larger, more demanding devices wherever you are. Thereβs also the space to fit a SIM-powered WiFi box with antenna ports, so you can have stable internet on the go.
