Conversion Description

Built by someone with two years of full-time van life experience and a background as an award-winning cabinetmaker, this new conversion was thoughtfully designed with off-grid living in mind. After living in and learning from my prior van, I built what I consider to be perfect for full-time travel or weekend adventures. It’s a build that combines real world functionality with handcrafted quality.

Water
40L water tank. 10L hot water tank. This heats off mains and 12V, up to 75degrees Celsius. Electric pump and accumulator for consistent flow.
The sink is big and deep enough to wash up decent sized pans

Electrics.
Lifepo4 Lithium battery – 628Ah. This is 2-4 times bigger than standard van batteries. It has a heating element inside it so the battery can be safely charged during the winter. Driving for about 30 minutes per day is sufficient to maintain the charge level.
The battery charges 2 ways:
1400W from the alternator when engine is running
600W when connected to shore power

240V Mains
There is a Victron 3000W pure sine wave inverter that can run mains appliances (including sensitive electronics). Capable of comfortably running laptop chargers, blenders, air fryer, even a microwave if you wanted. There is a double socket above the worktop, which is located centrally to the van.

12V
The fridge, heater, lights, fans etc are all wired off the 628Ah lithium leisure battery through a 12V Fusebox. There are several empty connections in case anything was needed to be added in the future.
2* usb charging ports by the bed, Type A and C

Fridge – Dometic 65 Litre dual zone fridge/ freezer. Super reliable and high quality fridge. Maintains temperature consistently even in very hot weather.

Hob – Induction hob- runs off battery or mains hookup.

Storage.
All storage made from high quality birch plywood. The hardware used is 60kg capacity Blum soft close runners.
Accessible from inside the van:
3 drawers+ the fridge
3 cupboards, 2 are clear and 1 houses the water tanks and pumps etc.
4 Cubbies above the bed for clothes
4 Cubbies above the worktop
The shelf above the cab.

Accessible from the rear doors:
Large space under the bed suitable for bikes etc.

Heater – 2KW diesel heater. This uses a heat exchanger to drawer warm air from in the van and heat it. It exhausts outside, so there is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, and can be safely run overnight if desired. The van is insulated with a mix of Celotex and recycled bottle insulation.

Bed
The Bed is a full size double

Toilet – I’ll include a choice of either a new composting or new chemical toilet. There is ample space for this to be stored under the bed.

Shower – personally I think gyms/ campsites are better for showers. Showers in vans tend to create damp problems. The van has the facility for a hot external hot shower/ or for hosing off a bike etc if a kit is connected to the kitchen tap.

If you have any questions, let me know.
