Mercedes 811D 1993
7.5 ton Motorhome / live in vehicle
Iโve owned this van since 2015, during which period I have restored and converted it into what you see now. Its been a mammoth labour of love, with blood, sweat and plenty of tears along the way. I built her for the big trips โ which it has been great on. But the time has come for me to move her onto people who can make better use of a lush, well kitted out home on wheels. Next stop Marrakechโฆ
Fully Off-Grid: You will never need a campsite, any beauty spot, forest track, layby or industrial estate can be your new home. 250w solar panel, 1200w victron inverter charger, Hot and cold running water, shower, cassette toilet, 300ltr clean water tank, 50ltr grey water tank, wood burner, eberspacher diesel heater, 4 burner hob, oven, grill, fridge / freezer. Basically everything youโll need to live comfortably. And space โ plenty of that.
Living: Sheโs built for 2 people, but could sleep a child across the sofa. 3 belted seats, with a double passenger swivel, makes a lovely L shaped area. Seats are nice and firm as they were retrofitted from a newer van. Plenty of storage space, under the bed, sofa and above the cab. Pull out larder units. High level cupboards all round, in which the pictures can be changed. Fold out table which can seat 4 at a push. 2 nice big opening skylights, one up front and one over the bed, creates a nice airflow โ keeping it cool in the heat.
Party in the rear: Itโs got a garage, we all need a garage. The last 800mm of the van are sectioned off for storage. 2 mountain bikes easily fit on the top shelf. The bottom fits a Honda Dax (Monkey bike) type motorcycle. Plenty of space for other camping equipment. And a massive roof rack, so plenty of space for surfboards / kayaks etc. Small fold out ladder / steps up the back.
Restoration / Mechanicals: I have spent many hours getting the van to this stage, over the last 5 years sheโs had. Inner and outer sills replaced all around, rear door valance, cab steps and replacement front wings and grille. Rear brake slave cylinders, load valve, hub seals, suspension / anti roll / steering bushes, dampers, front wheel bearings, gearbox seal among some of the things replaced. Nice big solid tow bar / rear bumper, could knock a house down. She will come with a years MOT too.
Driving: Sheโs nearly 30. So weโre talking about a commercial vehicle designed in the 80s. Just bear that in mindโฆ However โ when she roars into life you canโt help but smile. Driving position is nice, with all those windows, mirrors and good visibility. Power steering. Reversing camera too.
