Conversion Description

We were looking for a fun and practical campervan, big enough for all our needs but without the hassle of lumbering around in a LWB van. So we went for a medium wheel base van and put a pop top on it, which has worked really well and is loved by kids and adults.

The pop top gives the kids, and occasional adult, the exciting feeling of being in a tree house, and the tent can be unzipped to various points all the way around to heighten this feeling and add to the sense of adventure. In the pop top there are 2 x USB and USB-C sockets and an LED light which can be turned on from down bellow so as it’s not dark when you get up there.

The bed below can fold away during the day and pull out at night, over the hob and sink, into a kingsize bed. We designed the bed this size because we didn’t want to go away and have to sleep in a smaller bed than the one we do at home. At either side of the bed there are USB-C sockets and reading lights.

Underneath the bed there is a porta-potty that can be kept in its own designated cupboard.

The main light in the rear of the van is an LED strip built into the channel above the cupboard doors. This lights up the ceiling and bounces light around the van without you having to sit under peircing spotlights.

The illustrations on the over head locker doors depict fun holiday scenes and are completely unique to this van, and done by a well known illustrator.

The kitchen fronts are birch ply and the the flooring in the van is thick cork. The cork is pleasingly warm to walk bare foot on and both of these natural materials provide durable surfaces to be used.

The front driver and passenger seats are captains chairs, fitted on lower seat bases to provide and much more comfortable drive. These can both swivel round to face the pop up table in front of the 2 rear belted seats.

Along with plenty of storage in the kitchen and overhead lockers, the van has a huge amount of boot space under the main bed accessed from the rear doors. In the boot there is the Truma 10lt hot water heater and electrics on the left and on the right is the 100lt fresh water tank. On the left hand door is the external hot and cold shower. The water heats up in about 10 mins using gas and is enough for 2 people to shower quickly with.

On the roof of the van there are 2 x 115W solar panels and under the van there is a 55lt underslung gas tank. A Victron battery charger charges the 2 X 110 amp leisure batteries whilst driving along and a Victron MPPT unit charges from the solar panels. When hooked up to mains, the 240v socket will work and the water heater will work on electric and heat up 10lt in approx 5 minutes and a Victron battery charger will recharge the leisure batteries.

We converted the van to a high spec thinking that we would never sell it, but since the conversion life has gone a different way and we now have a building project on the go. And so to avoid getting into debt we have decided to finish the project and sell it as a brand new conversion.
