Nissan Caravan Jumbo
This is a Nissan Caravan Jumbo E24 (variant of the Urvan I believe) and has a high-top roof with bags of space inside.
Current mileage is a smidge under 120,000.
It is a 3.2 litre diesel engine that packs a whopping 99 horse power. That’s not a lot for a big old van and it’s certainly not built for speed but it drives well and is comfy. Top speed was described to me as “slow as f*ck” but I did have it sitting at 80mph at one point, downhill, while drafting a tractor, with a tailwind.
When I got it, it was a bit bashed up, had poor wheels on it, and it needed some love. The engine was serviced and it has passed the 2 mots in my ownership without any issues at all, most recently in April 22 with no advisories. The bodywork was fairly poor too, lots of wee dings and knocks, and the side door was badly damaged, but I put it in to Scotspray in Musselburgh who did a great job on fixing everything. There are now just a couple of marks as pictured – most notably a wee ding on the tailgate and another just next to the fuel filler cap.
The chassis underside has been blasted and treated and it is in excellent condition.
It was fitted out with the original and very dated and impractical camper kit and as I started to strip it out, I noticed more and more stuff that needed improving and I ended up taking it back to an empty shell. I then sound proofed and insulated everything including the floor, added a large leisure battery with B2B charging system, 12v led lights, charging sockets, a 12v pressure washer, and a camper toilet (that has remained unused and only kept for emergencies but it is filled with cleaning fluid).
I finished the interior with carpet lining and curtains from just kampers, and added some custom made ones for the side door opening and front cab, installed column ply on the ceiling for a nice finish.
The bed was customised by myself, just re-built and as yet unused. It sits high enough to allow a single mattress to go on the floor so this is now a genuine 3 (or 4 at a push if 3 shared the upper king) berth machine. The 4″ thick memory foam mattress is brand new out of the packet.
It’s been a bit of a labour of love for me and I have really enjoyed working in it, so much so that I will likely look to do another in the near future. I have my eye on a couple of VW Caddy Maxi vans.
The fridge and kitchen pod are not included unless via separate negotiation.
I cam supply a roll of lino big enough for the rear if required.
If you have any questions, please just ask.
Thanks very much,
Martin
