Volkswagen Caddy C20 Highline
Highline version with air conditioning, cruise control, alloy wheels etc… Cheap to run 1.6 litre engine which gives great MPG (~45-50mpg) on a motorway run. 1 former keeper with nearly full VW service history (seems to be missing one VW stamp early on from the previous owner) however all other services (total of 5 services stamps from VW are included in the service book). Vehicle has mainly been used for longer motorway runs on camping trips over the last 25k miles of my use so i’d expect little wear and tear on other parts. Tyres nearly new along with recent upgrade to battery. Cambelt and water pump replaced at 53k miles. One of the two number plate light bulbs at the back needs replacing but other than that it really is in great condition. MOT due August 2022 with next service not advised until August 2023.
This really is a unique conversion that we’ve thoroughly enjoyed travelling around the UK and parts of Europe in over the last few years. Many hours have been spent getting the most practical setup that works for two people meaning this van is ‘off the shelf’ ready for adventure. Conversion designed to maximise space and storage with complete flexibility depending on the users preference. I’ve used this solo with the bed as a single and bike down the centre along with pulling out the bed to a double and exploring many great sights with my other half.
Layout was designed to address many of the standard floors with most small camper conversions ensuring that the toilet is accessible in the night when the bed is pulled out, cooking and using the sink can be done whilst sitting down opposite with adequate headroom, and when the sun does come out the stove can be flipped around for outdoor cooking. Toilet and coolbox are included in the sale where their location is interchangeable depending on peoples needs. Coolbox lasts a good 3-4 days in the summer so plenty for weekends or can be topped up with fresh ice for longer with the added benefit of being able to remove it and keep those beers cool on the beach.
There are no electrics or fixed gas within the van which has reduced our insurance costs. When we require further power we carry a small Goal Zero Yeti with us for charging iPads, lamps, phones etc… Water to the sink is gravity fed by a 10L container with room for a further 5x 10L freshwater containers throughout the van for long periods off grid (total 60L fresh and 12L waste was our typical setup).
Tons of storage space under the bed, in the kitchen cabinet, behind the front seats and above the cab for all that adventure gear and snacks. Black out cab curtain for stealth camping or silver screens for the front windows when on a campsite along with wind deflectors meaning you can leave the front windows open slightly for ventilation. Removable insulated screens for the rear windows carpeted on both sides for a stealth look on the outside. Van was fully lined with foil / bubble insulation, plywood and carpet lining along with a durable floor covering and sound deadening to the wheel arches.
Smaller footprint and height make for a really economical van, and we’ve yet to encounter a car park height barrier too low for the Caddy on our travels.
