Conversion Description

At Rustic Simplicity we believe in keeping things simple. That doesn’t mean compromising on quality though, and our latest campervan has everything you could possibly want to be able to enjoy a lovely, chilled holiday. She is off grid, with 200w of solar which helps run her compressor fridge, the lights, charges your phone and pumps the water. A split charge system makes sure the battery gets a boost each time you drive along.
Luna is an xlwb, hitop Peugeot Boxer, which we reckon is our best conversion yet! She is built using reclaimed Scottish whisky barrel wood which means no two pieces are exactly the same! We have also used sustainable waney edged wood sourced from our wonderful local sawmill. She is van 27 for us, so we have had plenty of time to play around with different layouts and designs to see what really works. So what is so special about this particular camper van? The first thing people say when stepping through the door is how incredibly spacious she is. We have built into her design a bedroom, sitting room, dining area and kitchen. A change in levels means that the different areas feel very separate to one another, and you never feel as if you are on top of each other. When we tried her out a few weeks ago, I was able to enjoy a morning cuppa in bed, whilst James had his coffee sitting at the table, reading maps and contemplating the day. The fixed/not fixed bed question always invites controversy, both because a bed made from the sitting area usually means the camper is not really workable as a living space until the bed is put away, and also because many people feel making the bed up every night is too much faff. We would have to disagree. Luna’s bed takes approximately 2 minutes to assemble, (and I mean with all of the bedding in place) and break down, and I’m sure you’d agree everyone has 2 minutes to spare at each end of the day. If you want to leave the bed up you can though, as you can sit on the soft green velvet seats in her comfortable dining area. Comfort was top of the list when we were planning Luna, and I cannot begin to describe how tranquil and chilled her sitting area is. Raising it in the way we have means you are in a great position for wildlife watching…there are 4 windows to look through, 2 of which open. Her seats are formed from a luxury memory foam mattress which we have covered with soft woollen blanket fabric. I love sitting up there with the back doors open, and a view of the sea, a river or the mountains…a bit like being half inside and half out….and on a starry night it is just incredible. She has an exciting little flight of steps with a lovely carved wooden pole to help pull you up! A Lagun leg table serves both the sitting area and the kitchen as an extra work surface – I love putting all of the freshly cooked food up there and then swinging the table around to where everyone is sitting. Talking of cooking, she has a full oven, grill and 2 burner hob, with a portable wind guard. You can cook with the door window open, or even with the door open, using the wind guard. Her kitchen has a lovely butlers sink, a vintage brass tap and a cute dresser to display your favourite dishes with drop down cupboard door. You’ll have to wait until you come and see her to discover the secret of her egg ups staying in place during travel!
Storage is phenomenal with 2 huge clothes drawers under the seats, loads of kitchen cupboard space, a massive cupboard under the fridge to store bedding, and a cool quirky cupboard above the fridge for books and games. There is a pantry above the dining area, over cab space and a huge amount of boot space.
Luna can safely travel 4, – 2 in the front, and 2 seated at the train style table and chairs that form the dining area. She has a 6’ x 5’ bed that is made from the seating area, and although we have only built her as a 2 berth, it wouldn’t take much imagination to add bunks if you have small children. Equally, older kids could have their own tent! We have a little pull out toilet which sits behind the drivers seat, and a simple portable shower which works from a bucket you fill with a kettle.
Luna comes with a gassafe certificate. Her gas is being certified on the 11th October, so that is really the earliest she could be collected. Gas regulations have changed recently, but she will be fully compliant.
She has a diesel heater which is fed from her main fuel tank and she is fully insulated so you can keep using her into the colder months.
Luna is a pleasure to drive, with power steering and a 2 litre add blue engine (so euro 6 engine), which produces 130 bhp.
(She has not been registered yet as a motorcaravan…we did not want to be without the log book for the sale, and the DVLA are facing delays just now. We can send this off for the buyer, the chances are that it will come back as ‘van with windows’ and a wee letter saying it is a campervan to all intents and purposes, but they won’t label it as one due to the external appearance. If you want this done by us, let us know at point of sale and we’ll take care of it for you.)
