








Mercedes Sprinter 316 CDI MWB
4 wheel drive campervan, low mileage, rare model, perfect for 1 or 2 people wanting to add their own touches and then head out on off-grid travels.
2006 model, so a little older than some other campers out there, but the engine is really strong and runs beautifully. It has only 65,800 miles and is in great condition for its age.
Recent works:
Feb 2025 passed its MOT with a few advisories.
March 2025: had the brakes fully checked, with some pipes replaced (advisories on MOT sorted).
April 2025: bodywork done to tackle cosmetic rust on external spots on the doors (common in Mercedes vans).
May 2025: had the underside worked on to remove a lot of rust (mostly cosmetic but still looked a bit naff) and then had a few bits of welding done too on the driver’s side seal and behind the rear bumper. Aside from these bits of work, this van is in excellent condition for being 20 years old and is set up to continue to run for thousands more miles.
History: 3 previous owners. Originally, βBenJen the Fire Engineβ served in the Yorkshire Fire Department so there are some firefighting features left (e.g. siren switches in the cab).
The cab has 2 belted seats and is spacious and tidy. There is no air con or rear reversing camera, but it’s still a pleasure to drive. This is a diesel engine with 5 gears and manual transmission. It’s got great acceleration and fantastic power.
It’s classed as a light goods vehicle, but insurers recognise it as a campervan. Its weight limit is 3500kg but I can’t remember what it weighed in at β it was definitely way under 3500kg though.
Vehicle length is about 5.5 metres – up to about 6 metres if a tow bar is added (there are brackets and electrics for one, but I don’t currently have one on there).
Comes with a wheel clamp and steering wheel lock.
Average insurance prices for when it’s securely stored is about Β£400-500 per year. If kept parked on the road overnight, insurance is about Β£700 per year. Tax is Β£30-40 per month.
It’s been well maintained over the years with plenty of services to keep the van in top working condition.
I am really reluctant to sell this campervan, as I’ve only done a few thousand miles in it since getting it just before Covid struck. For the right person this vehicle is going to be perfect as it’s such a good van and the mileage is ridiculously low for its age.

Inside, the van is fully insulated and really comfy and clean.
12V USB electrics powered by a solar panel on the roof and run via two batteries accessible at the rear of the campervan. 240V mains hookup on the left-hand side of the vehicle allows for the plug sockets to be used.
2-burner gas hob, with the gas bottle securely stored in a bottle cabinet underneath. Above the gas hob is storage over the cab and little spice racks and boxes on the walls. There is also a hatch through to the cab that can be left open or closed. Underneath the gas hob is room for a small fridge, but I currently use a cooler box. To the left are storage shelves, with a diesel heater hidden in the back. This heats up the entire campervan on colder days in about 10-20 minutes.
There’s a large sink that is hooked up to run on electrics (a bit of fun really) and that sink area has plenty of storage space for water canisters.
Inside is a large double bed with custom-made cushions. The bed transforms into a table and seats. There is some storage under the seat and plenty of space overhead for more storage to be installed. I was planning on doing this but simply haven’t got round to it yet. I wanted a campervan that felt spacious and comfortable inside, so I modified it to have a lower bed, as previously, the bed was higher, and I was constantly getting stuck in the rain trying to access bits in the under-bed storage. Most of the conversion was done by the previous owner, who did a thorough and loving job.
There is a shower cubicle with lights, a fan and drainage built in, but I’ve never gotten around to installing a shower, as I used the space to hold my cassette toilet instead. Most of my travels have either been to places with facilities, or I’ve opted for a cold shower in the great outdoors lol. If a hot shower is important to you, then you’d either need to install one or opt for a camper with one already fitted.
There are ceiling lights in the main interior, a light above the hob and lights on the outside. I’ve used lino flooring throughout, which has proved pretty durable and keeps with the wood theme. There’s a sun hatch leading to the roof and a window on each side of the van looking into the main area.
For full transparency, the vehicle interior is fab, but I get that some people will see it as unfinished. There are a few areas that I would like to have done more work on, specifically:
– adding hot water and a shower
– adding overhead storage
– adding a fridge in place of the cooler box
However, I’m at a point where I don’t use it as much as I’d like to, and I don’t have time to make these modifications myself. I’m looking to sell it to raise money for a house deposit. Questions are welcome. Offers are welcome. Thank you.
