Mercedes Sprinter CD100 SWB HIGH ROOF
Reduced for a quick sale as I am moving to the US sooner than expected.
READY FOR SUMMER. SWB, HIGH ROOF, Double, three seater Sprinter conversion with recent MOT. MOT until 23 March 2024. Open to sensible offers. Available now.
I am very sad to be selling my SWB Sprinter van that I converted myself from scratch two years ago. I am relocating to America and unfortunately the cost to ship the van and to upgrade to meet the US emissions standards means that it’s not practical to take with me. Instead i’d rather see her go to a good home than sit and rust on a driveway just in case I return one day. I have had some amazing adventures and have made some wonderful memories and I hope that someone out there will get the same joy and pleasure that I have had and that she goes to a good home!
Here is a video I recorded two years ago doing a tour of the van. There are a few new additions and modification since then but it’ll give you a good idea of the layout. Please note, it’s a DIY van so of course it’s full of quirks. It’s not the perfect finish you’d expect from a custom built specialist but it’s warm and cosy and feels like home. There are a small number of minor dents and scrapes previously being a working van but it just adds to the stealth aspect of the sprinters. Anyway, it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

So this is it…
A Small Wheel Base, HIGH ROOF 2012 Sprinter that I purchased just over two years ago as a way to save a little money on rent and to scratch an itch for more travel and adventure in my life. The high roof, SWB Sprinter conversions seem to be quite rare but they are the perfect combination for those who want something a little shorter to manoeuvre, still being able to park in a regular car park space and for those who are tall (i’m 6ft2) to stand up right with more room to spare. I purchased the van online and it was actually advertised my mistake as a Medium Wheel Base. When I collected the van their mistake was realised but I decided to keep the van as it was in such good condition. It was the best decision I made. So many people have issues with parking and with reversing/turning in small lanes with MWB and LWB vans. I always am able to fit in a regular space with this SWB van and it manoeuvres beautifully around country lanes. As I mentioned having the ability to stand up to full height is one of the best things about this van. The layout means you are able to walk the full length standing upright so you never feel squashed or on top of one another.
The van has two 100W Solar Panels fitted to the roof connected to a 230V Vicron Inverter and powerful 260AH Xtreme AGM Leisure Battery, more than enough to power all of your phones and laptops over and over and perfect for working remotely as I have done. There are four charge points near the desk and kitchen area as well as two others to power the Noxton two ring gas hob and another for the Russel Hobbs Fridge. I am leaving all of the cutlery, IKEA pots and pans if you’d like them included. There are three draws in the kitchen for utensils and food storage and as I mentioned a Russel Hobbs Mini Fridge for fresh food. There is also a long shelf above the kitchen for further food storage or as I like to use it for plants!
There is a fresh water and a waste water container stored away under the counter top along with a Gaslow bottle which is one of the most expensive canisters you can buy. It was totally worth the investment as you can fill them up at most Morrison’s petrol stations for around £7 for a full bottle and it lasts for many months. I usually fill it up every 6 months. It’s incredibly cheap and efficient. There is also a feature that shows you how much gas is left in the tank so it never catches you off guard when you want to cook and discover you’ve run out and need to find an LPG Station. There is a Carbon Monoxide Alarm fitted in the van as well as a smoke alarm.
There is a large sink with powerful running cold water and large are for prepping food. There is an electronic Fiamma extractor van above the kitchen for venting condensation when cooking but it’s also nice to pop it open on a warm day for some extra fresh air.
I installed a window to the sliding door so there is plenty of light but also privacy as the glass is tinted. It’s great lying there on a windy day looking out to sea or a warm day with the door open.
I wanted to make sure all of my down time was comfortable and that I slept well at night. I’m 6ft 2 so I decide to pay for a custom set of memory foam mattress and cushions from an upholsters to match the design and width of the van. They are so comfortable and I have had very many peaceful night’s sleep on these. They are also very comfy for lounging around in the day time reading a book or watching a movie. The bed is also a DOUBLE. In the day time the bed frame and mattress moves into a sofa position and then at night the bed extends on slats into a double bed, room enough for two people. I also installed two hooks the length of the van which fits a hammock so sleeping three people is also an option.
I needed a work area and also somewhere to eat. I decided to up-cycle my great aunt’s writing bureau which acts as a desk and dining area and the draws below are great for storing clothes. It works really well and it’s one of the features of the van I like the most. There is also a huge storage area for more clothes and bedding above the cab as well as further storage below the writing desk which has been raised to allow for an area for storing dirty laundry/tools/the things you use less.
There is a concealed area at the bottom of the bed which stores a pullout portable toilet. Great for emergency’s and good to know that it’s there if you need to go in the middle of the night. The van is super warm and cosy being thoroughly insulated. I have added a screen at one end of the van which is great for movie’s if you have a small projector.
The van is fitted with an anti-drill security system and has automatic locking for extra security. There is a reverse parking camera for extra assistance. There are three seats in the front cab and the two passenger seats have extra storage underneath them which comes in handy for dirty shoes and storing anything you’d rather not take into the main cab. There is also some extra storage room next to the desk in the cab which is large enough to store my inflatable kayak and paddle which has been an amazing edition to the van and I have I used it on many occasions.
Full disclosure. Unlike many Sprinters there is no rust and the van was treated with anti-rust prevention before the interior was built. Occasionally the odd spec of surface rust appears on the exterior which has been treated. Some spots are more obvious than others and on the drivers side there is obvious treatment from scratches from the previous owner. Again this has been treated but it’s an obvious spot. These spots are listed in the photos. There is also a minor dent in the drivers side of the van, again from the previous owner but for me it wasn’t a problem when I bought it. Sprinter’s tend to have the odd bump and scratch being work vans and overall the exterior is in a great condition considering it’s a 2012 plate and perhaps adds to that stealth advantage that these van’s have compared to the typical camper. The entire van has just had a fresh coat of paint and varnish and I have also re-carpeted the van doors so you are literally ready to hit the road in a sparkly fresh van!

160,453 miles on the clock. Sprinter van’s tend to run for 400K+ miles and many continue long after that.
Note: I have recently received a letter from Mercedes about the SRS Airbag. The light on the van occasionally turns on and then off again but it has never shown up on diagnostics or been a problem when having an MOT. After contacting Mercedes I have discovered there is a recall on this particular model and they are willing to replace the airbag system for FREE and this takes half an hour to fit at a Mercedes Garage. The only reason I haven’t done this yet is because you have to put in an order with Mercedes for the part which takes up to five weeks and I am moving in less than 2. I can show you the admin to confirm this. You of course don’t need to do this and it doesn’t affect the van in any way but the option is there.
I really want the van to go to a good home, it’s meant a lot to me over the past few years and I hope to find someone who’s going to take good care of it and have lots of amazing adventures of their own! The van is ready for viewings and I look forward to showing you around.
A sofa in the daytime, the bed pulls out on slats into a comfy double bed. It’s fitted with custom made memory foam mattress and upholstery to match the colour scheme of the van. There are also two hooks to accommodate a hammock allowing the option for a third bed.
