Ford Transit LWB
Sturdy ford transit engine, never let me down on two hefty adventures around northern Scotland/Orkney and many smaller around England and Wales.
New MOT (expires May 2025), with only one minor advisory (small crack in windscreen),
just had 5 new tyres and two new batteries (vehicle main and electric).
Recently had minor engine work done to clear the previous MOT advisories such as brake pipes, cv joints and suspension arm pins.
engine size: 2198 cc
6 gears
lots of service history
bodywork condition: a few small dents and scratches, which could be easily covered.
some minor surface rust – being treated soon!
Sohmali has been my loyal home for the last two years in the Lake District, through many rain storms and snow storms, she’s kept me warm with her cozy wood burner blazing, with outside temperatures of -9! As a single female student she has made me feel safe parking anywhere, and been an incredible van to adventure in, over many a hill and valley.
I bought her as an empty van and converted using eco friendly products and used good quality recycled wood were I could. She is insulated using 100% natural sheeps wool, and the burner is incredibly efficient and easy to light, handmade by Glastonbury burners. The kitchen and back of the wood burner have Mexican tiles fitted and the sink is a lovely Portuguese copper bowl, with a copper tap and foot pump. Water storage is under the sink with a 25litre bottle with room for another. The kitchen has lots of top space and has a two ring vintage hob and grill.
Fitted with three medium sized horsebox windows, two portholes, and a skylight vent, I converted with the idea of keeping the space private while letting as much light in as possible.
The electrics work off of a new leisure battery, which is charged by the engine and solar panels. At the moment this charges the 500w inverter (which doesn’t make a noise!) and a two port USB charger fitted in the wall. I have only ever used USB fairy lights, and have found this to provide plenty of light. However, the fuse box has 5 more connections and the system is more than capable of providing energy for a fridge, and in-built lights if need be. There are wires set up ready for lights to be installed. The inverter has a plug socket and a USB port, the solar panel also has two USB ports so she has 5 USB ports in total!
With the width of the van, I wanted to make the bed a pull out to be able to stretch out comfortably, as well as to have enough floor space for yoga, unlike many vans of this size with the bed width ways at the back. The bed is 6’3ft long and she has an advantageous extra high roof!
She has plenty of storage! I have lived in Sohmali full time so she has plenty of storage for all belongings and extra bits such as bike, climbing gear etc. or any supplies you may need.
There is a hangboard fixed above the sliding door, if any climbers are interested (or if not it can be removed)!
I have poured my heart and soul into this van as my first home, only thinking of selling because I will be away for this year, if I don’t receive a reasonable offer I will happily be keeping her.
