Conversion Description

Designed to provide maximum living space with no compromise on storage, the build of this unique van interior maximises on comfort and contemporary aesthetics. The light and spacious interior provides everything you need for an off grid lifestyle with no fuss or unnecessary complication. Flooded with natural light during the day and sophisticated lighting systems for cosy evenings, this van is the ideal choice for novice travellers along with experienced ‘van lifers’.

As a former van lifer myself and a professional carpenter with years of experience designing and building vans, I am excited to bring my latest work to market. Whether you are planning weekends away to write in peace, planning a long term journeys abroad or simply wanting an original space to work remotely—this is the ideal vehicle. As versatile as it is reliable, I only make vans I would live and travel in myself. This is one of them!

The details:

L-shaped kitchen with solid oak worktop, three overhead cabinets, 3 soft close drawers, a large storage cupboard. The hob is a Smev 9222 combination sink, the lid of which closes to maximise counter top space. Under the sink there are 25 litre fresh water and waste water tanks and electric water pump. There is also a 40litre Webasto fridge. Everything featured is brand new.

I have designed and installed the lights so the whole van can be brightly lit or dimmed to create a calm and cosy atmosphere. Recessed LED spotlights run down the middle of the ceiling and there are neatly hidden LED strips above the door, under the kitchen units at floor and head height, and running along the edge of the ceiling. All of which can be operated independently.

The van is fully insulated throughout with 100mm recycled plastic insulation and 25mm insulation board with a vapour barrier which means that the van will stay cool in summertime and warm in winter. Extra heating is provided by a Propex HS2000 heater. This can be operated by the easily accessible thermostat so that the whole system can be turned on and off automatically. The hob and heater are both supplied by a 20 litre underslung gas tank. The full gas system has been recently gas safety certified.

The van features not one but two roof lights, both front and back. I specifically built these into the design to ensure there would be plenty of natural ventilation above the bed and over the kitchen space. The kitchen roof light additionally has a fan to efficiently pull away cooking smells and moisture along with a refreshing breeze when sleeping in the van on warmer nights.

The dining table folds very easily down in order to create an extremely spacious 190cm x 180cm bed. This allows plenty of space to spread out for two adults with enough to section part of it off to share with a small child. The system reverses just as easily to return the bed into a functional table space. This is very useful for quick changeovers in the mornings and evenings, freeing you to get to bed quickly or head out for a day of exploring.

The van is powered by two 160amp AGM batteries which are charged by a 300w solar panel permanently fixed on the roof. This operates with a Victron Orion smart charger for when the van is running. The whole system creates plenty of power which is vital to van life convenience—no more running between expensive campsites for hook ups! There are 2 double USB sockets and 12v socket but also a 375w Victron inverter for anything that requires a 240v supply like a laptop. The whole set up is more than ideal for remote workers or simply those wanting to relax and enjoy their evening in the van without concern about power supply. Every electrical item is top of the range Victron and Blue Sea. I don’t negotiate on quality when I fit out vans and this one is absolutely no exception.

The toilet is in a slide out cupboard that automatically locks which a reassuring ‘click’ when it’s closed. This is located right next to the door to allow easy access when it needs to be emptied. The runners are load rated to 200kg so no need to remove the toilet unit from the drawer when using it. Having lived in a van many years ago that did not have this feature, I can assure you that it makes the world of difference both for personal comfort and simplicity of use.

The ‘U’ shaped seating area has been raised slightly to give extra storage underneath. I have created a secret drawer in the step which is a great place to keep valuables such as laptops. The table is a Lagun style table seen in yachts and it can be set to any preferred angle height. There are 2 large storage cupboards under each seat and large garage area under the rear seating. I have made it possible to access the garage from the living area through the rear seat for ease of use. The oak top on the arm rest near the door flips open for storing small items with a useful port for USB charging.

And finally….

I trained as a carpenter and I am skilled in many areas but there is good reason why I chose to convert vans specifically. I am passionate about creating a feeling of luxury living and immense comfort within a practical and incredibly functional van space. Van life should feel reassuringly doable. With the right van, it really is. Drop me a message if you have any questions or would like to view. Each of my vans usually gets snapped up quickly and they take a long time to create, so don’t hesitate!

Thanks,
—Rich
