Base conversion
– Dodo Dead Mat Hex Sound Deadening and Knauf Eko Roll Loft insulation
– Aluminium reflective insulation roll used as vapour barrier, aluminium tape used to seal seams
– Premium plywood used throughout – all exposed areas are marine grade, thicknesses vary 6-12mm
– Plywood finished with Zinsser primer and Laura Ashley matt emulsion paint
– 4way stretch carpet to driver side wall, high heat resistant glue
– Tongue and groove to ceiling and passenger wall
Bed
– Very sturdy frame in pine, secured in corners and to floor with aluminium L brackets
– Section at foot end slides in/out to turn the large sofa into a complete bed
– 140 x 200cm total bed size
– IKEA bed frame slats used to create a comfortable bed base
– IKEA foam mattress (12cm thickness) is in immaculate condition and has never been used without a cover
Storage
– Two 1m x 60cm drawers under the bed, brown leather pull handles. Passenger side drawer set up as a kitchen / cooking drawer with an additional shelf for a Campingaz CV stove and space for preparation of food. Additional storage for pots / pans / plates / cutlery etc underneath shelf. Driver side drawer currently undivided but allows flexibility to store larger items such as wetsuits in dry bags etc
– Heavy duty ball bearing drawer slides with maximum weight of 50kg when fully extended
– 3 x cupboards along passenger side of van, deep enough to hold items such as magazines or laptops. One cupboard contains the USB charging station (pictured) – details in ‘Electrics’ section
– Cupboard above fridge
– Deep storage at food end of bed, perfect for items in bags
– Storage cupboard beneath foot end of bed (pull off lid)
Electrics
– Victron Orion DC-DC Converter / Charger 12/12-30A Non-Isolated
– EXV110 Enduroline Calcium Leisure Battery 12V (110Ah)
– Battery isolation switch
– Individual ability to isolate circuits with 60amp circuit breakers
– 60amp main fuse
– 16mm Oceanflex extra flexible tinned battery cable, earth for leisure battery sent back to main van battery, routed under the van
– 12way blade fuse box, LED indicator
– Oceanflex stranded single core tinned copper cable used throughout, 1.5mm used on low amp circuits (LED lights, electric screen motor) and 4.5mm for USBs, chargers (each USB charger / cigarette socket charger is on an individual circuit).
– All cabling crimped using high quality insulated crimp terminals and then sealed with heat shrink for extra protection. Cable routed via convoluted sleeving where there was any risk of abrasion.
– USB charging station in centre cupboard of ‘sideboard’ – contains 2 x double USB socks (ie 4 total USB sockets) with Quick Charge 3.0 function, cigarette plug charger, voltmeter, switch to turn projector charging on/off, 3.5mm audio jack for projector audio output to external speaker
Projector and screen
– Projector screen is hidden within ceiling, able to raise and lower at the touch of a button via the wireless remote
– Yaufey mini projector – runs off an Android operating system to allow a ‘SmartTV’ style experience, apps available include Netflix, iPlayer, ITV, Channel4, Channel 5 etc etc. USB thumb drive allows expandable storage to download selected episodes or films. Can also connect via WiFi to a phone or laptop to mirror the display.
– Projector wired into a charging cable powered by the leisure battery, charging can be turned on / off via a switch in the central cupboard of the ‘sideboard’ that runs alongside the bed
– A 3.5mm audio cable is routed within the walls of the van from the projector to the same central cupboard to allow a high quality portable speaker to be used for the full cinema experience!
Lighting
– LED strips in run lengthwise in the corners of the ceiling, aluminium profile and diffusion cover for a soft light
– Reading lights built into both rear doors to allow focused lighting, also perfect to direct towards the stove when cooking or searching the drawers
– Lighting controlled via main switch panel, individual switched built into reading lights
Fridge
– Halfords 40litre 12V fridge with mains adapator, allows the fridge to be brought down to temperature using mains electricity before connecting to the 12V system in the van to maintain
– Runs on heavy duty drawers slides to allow easy access
– Charger built into fridge cabinet, can be turned on / off via main switch panel
Reversing Camera
– 10″ mirror combined dash camera and reversing camera, can be used to record as a dash cam and will automatically switch to display the view from the reversing camera subtly attached above the rear number plate when reverse gear is selected
– Hardwire into fuse box to allow constant power supply
– Direct wire connection hidden in van walls between camera and screen – no problems with wireless connectivity
