Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

Volkswagen VW Caddy C20 Plus Tdi 102 Short Wheel Base Professionally Converted Stealth Camper. £10,995 but open to offers.
Registered in 2012, MoT until 4th December 2025 with no advisories, 123,000 miles.
I am reluctantly selling this van after 9½ happy years as my circumstances have changed and I need a larger van / motorhome.
I had this van converted professionally and it has been economical to be used as a daily driver, perfect for me to live in for short periods while working away, ideal for 2 for the odd few nights away at a festival (or for longer using an awning) and versatile to carry larger loads. The roof rack and tow bar means that carrying kayaks and bike racks is so simple.
I have included lots of photos and can add others if requested. Below is a full description of the vehicle which I have divided into ‘vehicle’ and ‘conversion’ sections that outline the good, the bad and the ugly. Any sensible requests for more info will be answered.
The van is located in Cornwall but I will be happy to deliver it to a train station to meet the buyer
THE BASE VEHICLE
The Good
Tidy van that scrubs up well, Long MoT with a good service history. 1.6 TDi diesel that is comfortable to drive, delivers a good mpg for a daily commute. Timing belt changed at 19,000 miles. Three out of the four fuel injectors have been changed in the last 5 years. Last serviced November 2024. MoT history can be viewed online.
It has the original VW steel wheels, BUT, last year I had them shot-blasted and power coated in anthracite. They are now beautifully bomb proof and maintenance free and will never rust again 
Cab has good amount of overhead storage, door pockets, drink holders, central remote locking and electric and heated wing mirrors.
The Bad
There’s still one of the original fuel injectors on the van. These are a known problem with the 1.6 engine I’ve been told but I have been using ‘better quality’ diesel (not from supermarkets) in an attempt to prolong its life.
The position of the kitchen unit in the rear means that there is a limit to how far back the driver’s seat can be moved back, Imam 5′ 9″ and it is perfectly fine. If you have particularly long legs this might not be the van for you.
The Ugly
There are a few stone chips on the bodywork which I haven’t tried to treat because they don’t bother me too much – some small ones on the bonnet and a couple on the back doors. The tow bar is solid and the electrical connections work (including an audible sound when indicating to remind you you’re towing something) but it does have some surface rust.

Conversion Description

THE CONVERSION

The Good
The van was treated to a professional conversion which includes the following:
Leisure battery and fuse panel with split charge relay that automatically recharges leisure battery while driving .
Insulated, ply-lined and carpeted walls, plush ceiling and altera, hard wearing flooring.
MoT compliant rear seating and seat belts that collapse into a double bed.
Compact gas stove and sink with electric pump. Accessible cupboard underneath for gas bottle and regulator, clean water and waste. Solid copper gas piping with outlet sump drain in case of a leak.
4 LED Ceiling lights which can be individually controlled by just touching each one.
Lights over kitchen area with optional night light.
Optional blue lighting in rear.
12v socket and USB charger.
Curtains on rear windows and between cab and living area.
Demountable table that tucks away behind driver’s seat when not needed and cupboard with roller door for bedding, kitchen gear etc. complete the compact but fun and usable living area.
Photos show the function of the living area including tap and stove.
There is no side window in the back meaning that it is a perfect vehicle Stealth Camper if needed. The addition of an awning to the side door (separate sale) extends the living area when extra space is needed.
While the absence of a side window means that it can’t be listed with the DVLA as a campervan, it does mean that this is a perfect stealth camper allowing you to stay anywhere you want to, undetected.

The Bad
This is a short wheelbase van making it ideal,as a dailyndriver and incredibly versatile. It does however mean that this limits the length of the bed. At 5′ 9″ it’s perfectly fine and moving the front seats forward would give even ore length. If you’re particularly tall then you might find this van a little cramped.
The water pump is fully functional off the leisure battery and is operated from the switch at the front of the unit. The micro-switch attached to the tap has never worked (much to the installer’s dismay) but this has never been a major problem in use.
There is a small nick on the front of the rear seat (which happened in the first few months of the conversion) I dabbed it with superglue and while still visible, it has not extended in all these years.
Roughly the same time I left a wet towel after kayaking, on the floor in the back. This caused some damage to the laminate at the base of the kitchen unit. Again, this hasn’t got any worse over the years. It could be covered, but it is just cosmetic.

The Ugly
The surface of the shelf inside the rear cupboard has suffered from some tins of beans that were left in there too long, causing rust. Could be easily covered or replaced – again, it’s not structural, just cosmetic.
I have used the van as a daily driver so while fully functional, it’s not as mint as it once was. However, with a professional valet or some time and TLC the living area could be restored to quite a high standard.

When you log onto the gov.uk MoT checking website you’ll see that this van is one of millions of VWs worldwide that were issued recall notices since 2015. The recall was about the VW emissions ‘cheat’ that cost VW billions of pounds. Many owners did not take them back to have them ‘fixed’ though because the fix often had a detrimental effect on engine performance. (Google VW emissions scandal for more info) There is nothing wrong with it, though, it drives well and passes MoTs. However, if the new owner wants to have it changed they just need to take it to a VW dealer who will do it FOC
