VW Transporter Blue Motion Tech
Originally a SKY TV van, we purchased this van in September 2018 to begin our camper van build (We are the 2nd owner). The base vehicle has been well looked after due to it being a fleet vehicle. It came with a full service history (although not in the service book, but a company print out), all work that needed completing had been done. Plus, as sky vans are wrapped in advertising all over, the body and paint work were immaculate.
The van is a 2L diesel engine with a 5 speed gear box. It has travelled all through hills in the high lands in Scotland and the peak distract with no problem. Mechanically the van has been perfect and never missed a beat. We have it serviced regularly and ensure it is well maintained. The base vehicle includes cruise control, satellite navigation, parking sensors, radio, plus Bluetooth connectivity for phone and music.
With the help of a family member who has converted numerous vans we completed the conversion ourselves. Undergoing thorough research and using the best materials and conversion companies we built the camper van over around 6 months.
The conversion includes new front seats in diamond leather stitching, with swivel base for the passenger seats. Matching rock and roll bed in the same style. Leisure battery under the drivers seat which is charged via a split relay. The leisure battery is hooked up to a Victron Energy Blue Smart IP65s Battery Charger. This can be plugged in at home to charge the battery or to provide hook up on camp sites for electricity. There is Bluetooth connectivity via a phone app to check the state of the battery when charging or camping off grid. When using the campsite hook up, there are 3x 240v plugs which are powered by the hookup. The Leisure battery powers 2x USB sockets and a 12v socket. Other appliances include a 12v fridge which runs off the leisure battery and hookup, a Planar diesel heater (powerful enough for winter camping), a sink with fresh and grey water tanks and running water tap and various lights around the inside of the van.
The van has been fully insulated and carpeted inside, with grey wooded flooring. The side units (from Evo Motion Design) match the seats, carpet and flooring, with a gloss black work service and table, grey wood and with silver doors, hinges and black edging.
Please check out our video where we have a time lapse of our build, so you can see for yourself what went into the conversion.
A crash tested, 3/4 rock and roll bed has been professional installed from Captain Seats Limited. In the upright position is has 2 seats with seat belts, which can then be laid flat to have a small double bed.
