Hi there, and thanks for your interest in our van; Tombo, named after a beloved Peruvian mountain dog.
My partner and I (a professional carpenter) converted Tombo in 2023 with the view that this is a lifetime investment. We didn’t spare any costs, and the conversion was diligently designed to withstand many years of adventures. However, only one year later, our plans are taking us away from the UK and back to the Netherlands. While we initially hoped to import Tombo, the costs and complexities have pushed us into selling.
The van was designed to create a very comfortable living space. This involved creating a light and open environment inside the van, with windows all around you. The timbers that have been used were selected based on their sustainability (UK grown hardwoods and reclaimed tropical hardwoods), as well as their beautiful grain and durability. Colours have been kept to mostly earthy tones, including the upholstery and window blinds. The entire conversion process, from insulation through to fixtures and fittings has had an emphasis on quality. This is extensively documented in the vehicle guide and conversion document included in the sale.
The bulkhead has been kept in order to create a well insulated living area (thermally and sound), with a large kitchen. The design is optimised for two people (plus a faithful dog or cat companion), though it could be adapted for a small family. An awning is included with the van, to provide sun and rain cover. The ‘garage’ area (under the double bed) is generously sized, easily fitting two paddle boards with space alongside for other kit. A toilet is included in the van, but there is plenty of space to add a chemical or composting toilet under one of the seats if wanted. We have taken the van on some great trips in the UK as well as one longer trip to Morocco. It has always been such a joy to live in, and we’re now excited for it to have a new life with new owners.
