The Quirky Campers mission

About Quirky Campers

Quirky Campers offers handcrafted campervan rentals across the UK and now New Zealand. We act as an agent for a collection of friendly and likeminded campervan owners, each with a unique and beautiful camper they have lovingly created and want to share with the world.

We require all those listing with us to maintain high standards of craftsmanship, cleanliness and sheer delightfulness. Think carved wooden cabinets, log burners, inviting double beds, cots for kids and fully kitted out mini kitchens. So whether you’re planning a no screens family adventure, some distraction-free couple time or a bit of luxurious festival madness, we’ve got it covered. All that’s left for you to worry about is choosing the perfect campervan for you.

Oh and by the way, you won’t find a collection of campervan rentals like ours anywhere else in the UK.

Tell Us About Yourself!

I am the middle child of 7 and grew up in a rural intentional community so our house was alway busy,  my parents are very alternative and looked for a different way of life. I lived in Norway where I learned carpentry and became fluent in Norwegian, and then moved back to Bristol in my 20s. Before Quirky I worked in renewable energy; I love making things and coming up with new solutions to old problems, these days this is more software than hardware, but one day I want to get back to getting my hands dirty.

When I’m not exploring as much as I can of the country in my converted camper blasting Taylor Swift , I’ll be looking for the nearest (and coldest) body of water to swim in.

What do you do at Quirky?

I look after the Converter Directory, building and maintaining connections with conversion businesses who hand craft beautiful vans like those we have available for hire. I also cover bookkeeping, marketing, managing social media, the odd few days with customer experience and a few other bits and bobs.

Tell us about yourself!

I have done a lot of travelling during childhood including experiencing the magic of DisneyLand, Florida twice but nothing beats a cosy staycation with my family making memories that include a lot of laughs along the way. I don’t have a campervan just yet but am lucky to have the opportunity to swoon over 100’s of beautiful vans on the daily at Quirky and safe to say I now have enough campervan inspo to eventually have my own perfect home on wheels. I love a good book and if the weather allows I also like to spend time in the forest spotting squirrels and counting the ducks in the stream with my daughter.

I work in the customer experience team and am always happy to help. I enjoy variety and getting involved in different aspects of Quirky Campers with campervan owners, rental customers and the sales platform.

Tell us about yourself!

I’ve always been passionate about the outdoors, having climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, enjoyed a Tanzanian safari and helicoptered to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to get married. These experiences have fuelled my love for adventure. Nowadays I enjoy spending quality time with my young family, exploring closer to home in our VW camper, reading and taking walks with our dogs.

What do you do at Quirky?

As the marketing manager at Quirky, I’m passionate about sharing the unique and exciting world of campervan adventures with as many people as possible. From crafting creative campaigns to showcasing the beauty of exploring the outdoors, I make sure our message inspires the spirit of adventure in all of our customers.

Tell us about yourself!

When I’m not working at home in London, you’ll probably find me exploring mountains or beaches in my Mazda Bongo campervan or on my gravel bike. My favourite ways to spend my time include listening to live music, surfing, running, eating all the Turkish food of North-East London and hanging out with my niece.

Quirky Campers campervan hire team

Our story

Quirky Campers is a family business run by husband and wife team David and Lindsay. They set it up in 2010 as a means to rent their own gorgeous campervan, Bella, while they lived in Kenya for six months. Running the rentals remotely, they were amazed at how much interest the lovely Bella got.

On their return they slowly started to build the business alongside self-building their own family home in Bristol. It was when they found out that their son was going to be joined by twin sisters that they decided to quit the day jobs and devote themselves to Quirky ‘full time’ (read – between feeds, nappy changes, piles of washing etc).

After many years of running the business as a duo, they expanded the team to include a host of exceptionally talented individuals, many of whom work from their van-homes.

David and Lindsay believe passionately in supporting UK craftsmanship and a balanced family life, two things Quirky Campers has helped them achieve for themselves, their team and their owners over the years that they’ve been running the business.

A winding road curves through a lush, green valley with a white car driving along it. Patches of brown and green fields, divided by low stone walls, spread across the landscape. A narrow river follows the road's direction. Snow-capped mountains rise in the distance under a pale sky.

What we believe

Holidays at home

Let us just say this: holidays don’t need to be foreign. They also don’t need to be stressful, logistical nightmares involving 100ml toiletry planning and two-day jetlag. Our quirky campers are here to help you discover the joy, delight and (if you want it) wild adventure of a holiday closer to home. Our vans may not be no-carbon, but compared to a long haul flight they’re practically saintly.

Doing the right thing

For us, good business means looking after our people, our communities and our planet. All of our van fit-outs make use of natural and reclaimed materials, come stocked with eco cleaning products and the vast majority use solar power for their internal electrics. We’re proud to balance every mile driven in a Quirky camper with Temwa.

We give 10% of our profits to charity.

Adventures for everyone

We passionately believe that adventure shouldn’t just be for the few; for the young, footloose or optimally mobile. Our campers of all shapes and sizes have enabled families with young children, the more mature and those living with illness or disabilities to explore the British countryside, attend festivals or go to a really important event.

The world of campervanning needs to become a more inclusive space and we aim to support this process through Diversify Vanlife UK; an Instagram platform, offline community and tent at our festival Camp Quirky.

A family of three stands in front of a blue Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. An adult man with a beard holds a young child dressed in a blue coat and red beanie. A woman in a beige coat and black hat stands to their right. They all smile and stand close together with a sunset in the background.

Our owners

Our campervan owners are the heart and soul of our business. It’s thanks to their dedication and creativity that our wonderful campers even exist let alone form part of our delightfully quirky collection.

Our growing community of owners are spread across the UK and are as diverse as the vans they rent: from circus performers, to engineers, photographers to university professors, professional craftspeople and stay at home parents. What they all share is a passion for handcrafted campers, a love of adventure and a desire to share their pride and joy with the world when it’s not in use. We work closely with our owners to make it an enjoyable process for them and our customers. You can find out more about hiring through Quirky Campers here.

We’re proud that Quirky Campers helps our people earn an income from their beautiful vehicles, at the same time as opening up a world of handcrafted glamping delight to our happy campers who rent them – not to mention facilitating 100’s of interactions between some of the loveliest people we’ve ever met.

What can we say, it’s the sharing economy meets amazing road trip. Wait, is that a film?
