Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

This is our red VW t4 campervan Rosie. She comes with an MOT until Aug 2024. Full service history, 1.9L Diesel, central locking, sunroof, Bluetooth radio.
Driver side passenger door is missing a lock and bumper at front has popped out slightly.

Externally – She is in good shape. She had been resprayed by a previous owner and the paintwork is in excellent condition for her age. She has almost no rust on the bodywork and the few small spots that do exist are superficial and will be easily stopped in their tracks. There is certainly none of the wheel arch rot you see on so many of these. The bumper on one side is slightly coming out as pictured.

Internally – The cab is neat and tidy for a 25 year old vehicle. The passenger seats are spotless. There is a patch of wear on the drivers seat, which we have covered over to protect and keep from getting worse. We have black seat covers which will come with the van. There is a sunroof, which is extremely unusual and comes in very handy in the summer. In the back, you will find a hand made custom conversion similar in standard and style to most things you will find on the quirky campervan rental sites. Digital/Bluetooth radio is also installed.

* Seating – There are three bench seats and depending on the orientation when you park up, you can either sit and enjoy the view from the seat just inside the sliding door or from the seats either side at the rear which additionally benefit from the rare and sought after hatch back style boot door which provides a built in awning and shelter from the elements. This van comfortably seats 5 (or 6 at a push) and on more than one occasion has saved the day for friends in tents when the weather has turned ugly.

* Sleeping – The three benches convert into a generous 5ft x 8ft bed with room for three if you have a little one or a small friend (there are three seats in the front after all).

* Storage – There is ample storage in the lockers under all three benches. Inside the sliding door you will find a separate locker for muddy boots. At the rear you will also find two deep pigeon holes which keep anything dirty such as tools or buckets and spades separate separate from clean clothes or bed linen. There is also a large amount of storage under the kitchen for food and cooking utensils.

The floor, roof, walls and both doors are all fully insulated. Recently have installed new flooring as pictured.

* Power – The van has a 70ah leisure battery which is charged via a split charge relay. If youโ€™re not familiar with this system – Whenever the engine is running, the alternator is charging both the starter battery and leisure battery. As soon as the engine stops, the circuit between the three breaks. This means that you could entirely discharge the leisure battery (not that this would be very good for it) and not discharge the starter battery at all. The draw on the leisure battery is fairly minimal, consisting of an led spot light above the kitchen, a string of led fairly lights and two usb charging sockets for phones and speakers etc. So long as youโ€™ve done a reasonable drive beforehand, youโ€™ll arrive with a fully charged battery. Given the modest draw on it, this will last 5 or 6 days at least even if the van is not driven in between.

* Water – There is a new 10 litre fresh water tank and a 10 litre waste water tank under the sink. This system is powered by a manual whale foot pump on the floor. 10 litres should last two people about two days and the tank is easily removable for refilling. There is plenty of space for another tank to double your water storage should you want to be off grid for a bit longer.

* Cooking – In a small van, we would always choose to cook outside whenever possible so it made the most sense to use a portable camping gas stove. This is stored under the kitchen counter and can be used both inside and out. Obviously a window or door should be cracked for ventilation in the event that you do find yourself cooking inside.

Mechanically – the previous owner had a newly refurbished engine fitted by WS motors in Castleford who are a VW t4 specialist back in July 2022. All the associated work was done in conjunction with this – New timing belt kit, clutch, water pump, plus oil filter and coolant. The refurbished engine had done 140,000 miles so is actually 6,000 younger than the van itself and was an excellent match. The diesel injectors were also refurbished in 2021. She starts and drives perfectly and If youโ€™re happy driving at 60-65 mph then sheโ€™s surprisingly economical too. Taking into account the condition of the bodywork and newly refurbished engine, this is now the closest to a new t4 you might find.
Work done since weโ€™ve had her – oil and coolant leaks fixed, structural welding, new steering column, new handbrake cable, wiring fixed, new headlights, central locking has been fixed for front doors, new tyre.

Given all this effort, you might ask why we are now selling it and the answer is that we donโ€™t get as much use of her as we wanted and want to give her a new home with someone who will be able to use her more.

Please let us know if you have any questions!
