Ford Transit Custom LWB L2H1
Here is our newly converted white Ford Transit Custom LWB. It runs really well and has not given me any issues in the time I’ve had it. Has a 2.2 litre engine and 6 gears, bodywork is in good condition too. It’s MOT’d from Monday (7/3/22) so it has plenty left ready to drive without worry.
We have tried to get everything you need in this van, maximising the space however we can!
In the kitchen we have a small but functional square sink with the black tap. There is a 45L fresh water tank with Fiamma fill up point by the driver side door. I have used John Guest push fittings on all connections to make sure we have a nice solid secure fit. The water is pumped by a Shurflo water pump, through a Shurflo water filter and Fiamma Accumulator and then on to the tap. The sink drains into a 10L water tank that can be lifted in and out for emptying. The fresh water tank has a CBE water level indicator so you can always keep an eye on things to make sure you don’t run out.
The Hob is a Thetford 922 double hob that is connected to a Campingaz bottle.
Directly above the hob is the vans roof vent which works on a speed control to make sure you can vent any cooking smells from the van quickly. The side windows both slide open too so you can get plenty of airflow.
A 40L Smad fridge sits below the hob. This can be locked with a key to keep things nice and secure when on the move.
The cabinet under the sink holds the water fittings and water tanks but there’s still room for other bits you need to hide away. Underneath that is a nice deep drawer perfect for pots and pans. There’s also another drawer above the fridge, ideal for cutlery and utensils.
Underneath the bed is the gas locker holding a Campingaz 907 bottle. This is also connected to Propex heater. This heats up in no time at all and are hugely efficient so heat up the space perfectly. The bed lifts in up with two large storage sections underneath.
The side unit also has plenty of storage. Two cupboards on the left hand side, a cubby hole in the middle and a small slide out drawer underneath that. On the right hand side of the unit there’s a flip up table which is perfect when you’re sat on the sofa. Behind that is a lift up lid with even more storage. Underneath that holds the Leisure battery and all of the electrics.
The Electrics are all tucked away nicely behind a door to keep things simple and do away with the choas of wires you sometimes find.
175W flexible Renogy solar panel
220AH Xtreme AGM leisure battery
20a Renogy MPPT solar charger
Sterling Battery-Battery Charger
600W Inverter
There are 2 fuse boards, one in the same unit and one just behind the fridge. This means the power could easily be distributed to both sides of the van.
The solar panels and batteries are both connected to circuit breakers so they can be easily switched off when storing the van or for maintenance. The B2B charger and Inverter are both protected with inline fuses.
There are 6 lights fitted in the ceiling, all controlled by a dimmer switch, an LED strip light built into the shelf above the side unit and a reading light fitted above the bed. There are 2 USB’s on the switch panel by the door and an extra one in the inverter if needed.
We have tried to get creative and stay sustainable with this conversion. The worktops, shelves and ceiling slats are all made from old reclaimed railway sleepers that my grandfather bought over 50 years ago and have been on our farm ever since. They are made from Opepe, which is a solid hardwood and machines up so nicely. The roll up blinds are made from a black cork fabric and are blackout so are ideal for privacy and a good nights sleep. The bed covers are made from a hemp fabric too.
We tried to change it up with the colour scheme a bit so have used a grey chalk paint for the furniture and a nice orange wood varnish for inside the cupboards and drawers to complement the deep orange of the worktops and greys of the furniture. The tiles in the kitchen are an easy clean aluminium mosaic style tile.
If you have any questions, please ask!
Thanks
The bed slides out to the side unit to create a 1.3m wide bed. The cushions are made of brand new 100mm thick firm foam and have zipped covers. The covers are made of Hemp in a black canvas finish.
