Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

This is Betty. My idea with this van was to create a smaller version of the Sprinter I sold on Quirky Campers back in August except this one wasn’t for me, it belongs to my Mother. Betty has lived most of her life as a family day van until three years ago when I began work to turn her into a rustic campervan. She’s had little use since then and has received routine servicing. Engine is the 2.5TDI version and hasn’t missed a beat in all the time it’s been in the family. After purchasing the van I steam cleaned the underneath and applied a generous coating of waxoyl to prolong the life of the bodywork against water and salt corrosion. I also reapplied underseal to the wheel arches. All sills are in good condition and not subject to pending rust damage.

Betty has an electrical system powered by a 170AH AGM leisure battery which is charged from a roof mounted solar panel and by the engine when driving. She also has a 240v mains hookup hidden away neatly behind a reflector, with a double gang socket built into the kitchen unit. There is also a built in USB charging port. Situated in the kitchen unit is a Dometic 12v compressor fridge. This is very efficient in both fridge and freezer modes.

The L-shaped sofa can act as either a single bed or pulls out into a double. One section of the L lifts up and can be used for storage (Mum currently keeps a two ring gas cooking burner there) and the other section in fixed with storage underneath. I have also built a storage unit comprising of four cupboards to the side of the sofa/bed.

Betty is insulated primarily from sheeps wool which is my favourite choice of insulation for it’s ability to wick moisture and it’s great thermal qualities. I’ve also added a layer of silver foil bubble wrap either side of the wool to help reflect the rays of the sun in summer, and the warmth from inside the van in the winter. The window in the roof has a fan for ventilation in hot weather or when cooking keeping condensation levels to a minimum.

We have installed a central locking system for the front doors. The key barrel for the side door is missing meaning it has to be locked/unlocked from the inside. This can be replaced and doesn’t affect the security to the van.

All features in the van are original T4 apart from the gear stick knob and stereo which is aftermarket. The previous owner was a T4 enthusiast and made sure the van stayed as it was when rolling off the forecourt as opposed to changing the bodywork and wheels etc.

Betty has been lovingly cared for in the family and shall be sorely missed when she goes. If it wasn’t for COVID Mum wouldn’t be selling.
