I have currently been using an inflatable mattress which fits in the middle of the 2 static benches. I found this quite a comfortable set up so did not proceed with the wood and cushions/roll out mattress idea.
The bed layout has been designed to fit a piece of wood across the 2 bench lips on each side of the seats, providing a large bed area that can be easily restored to benches. With a simple slot in of the wood, I would then have had a roll out mattress for the bed space or if preferred, a couple of bench cushions.
