It is with a very heavy heart that we’ve decided to sell our beloved Coq O’Van. We bought the van already converted in the summer of 2019 and have taken it all over Europe and the UK. It’s also been a very successful rental for us, with regular bookings through the Quirky platform for the last 5 years. But we’re having a child in the autumn, so it’s time to trade in for a van that we can use as an everyday, family vehicle.
Originally a builder’s van, Coq O’Van is a 2009 Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI LWB, now registered as a Motor Caravan. It had done 133,000 miles when we bought it in 2019 and has now done just under 175,000 miles. We’ve taken very good care of it over the last few years, with regular services as well as work to the suspension, brakes and bodywork. The MOT and gas safety certificates both renew in June and will be renewed before sale. The insurance renews in July and won’t be renewed before sale.
There are three belted seats in the driver’s cab, electric windows, a stereo with CD (yep!) and Bluetooth/NFC and two 12-volt electric sockets.

The original conversion was done by Harry’s Campers down in Portsmouth in 2017 and we’ve made various improvements to it over the last few years, including a new floor throughout, a re-do of the kitchen and various bits like additional shelving and new cupboard door handles.
The bed is a full double (200cm long by 140cm wide) and an L-shaped kitchen provides ample space for a 2-burner gas hob, a pump-powered kitchen sink (served by a 70-litre water tank), a Dometic fridge/freezer and a large solid wood worktop for chopping, prepping and cooking. A fold-out table hooks into a bar running along the worktop to give somewhere to eat or work on a laptop. Wood panelling along the ceiling is home to multiple LED spotlights and two fans to take fumes out or blow cool air in. A diesel-powered heater keeps the space warm on cold nights.
Two cupboards next to the bed provide storage for clothes, there is lots more storage space under the worktop and bench seat and LOADS more storage for bikes, surf gear, etc. in the boot (the space under the fixed bed, which is accessed from the double doors at the back). We might be persuaded to throw in some of the current contents of the boot (deck chairs, table, USB-powered shower, back up gas cannisters for the hobs, clothes drying rack, wind break for beach trips, etc.)
A solar panel on the roof keeps the leisure battery topped up when it’s not being charged by the vehicle battery. Two USB sockets next to the bed are perfect for charging devices overnight and there’s a full plug adapter in the driver’s cab to charge anything that needs a standard 3-pin plug (240-volt) connection.
The chemical toilet sits in the storage space underneath the cushioned bench, together with some fans for hot weather and some rugs and hot water bottles for cold weather. (We might be persuaded to throw those in as well.)
A Thule awning runs the length of the passenger side of the van, perfect for creating a shady area to set down the table and chairs.
A full double bed which is fixed in place and a sofa that can be used as a bed for a child from 1 to about 10 years.
