Volkswagen Transporter T4
We are sadly saying goodbye to our beloved campervan, which we bought in 2017 as a panel van with windows and converted ourselves with much thought and care. This van has seen many adventures, but now we need something a little larger for our family, and would like someone else to have the chance to make the most out of it!
Mechanical bits:
New clutch 2023
New timing belt and water-pump 2021 (at 160,000 miles)
New steering column 2017
Modified headlight wiring to resolve T4 known issues of dim lights
Alloys and new front tyres
Significant service history
Self-build camper conversion:
The van is lined and insulated, with thermo-acoustic foam insulation, Dodo mat sound deadening sheets and a vapour barrier
The cab is separated from the living space with a backboard and blackout curtains
In the living area you have a large L-shaped bench which seats 4-5 people
The benches have hinged lids with plenty of internal storage
The bench pulls out into a full-size double bed
The sofa cushions then become your double mattress – 4 inch foam with a 1 inch memory foam top layer, super comfy
We have also fitted a wardrobe with loads of storage (particularly when you roll your clothes up!)
The kitchenette includes 3 soft-close drawers (1 double-depth) and 4 box-shelves
Dometic sink with tap and twin hobs
On the backboard there is a rail with hooks for hanging items and fused multi-switch panel including lights, USB charging ports for phones, and van/leisure battery health indicator (with space for electrical additions.
Underneath the sink you have a 20l water canister and a 20l waste water canister, metal gas safe with ratchet strap for 3kg gas canister, with 2 downward drainage holes, and a Halfords 14 litre 12V electric cool box with built in power socket. We have found this to be much better and quieter than the fancy, expensive fridges! Keeps stuff frozen for days
There are multifunctional LED lights in the ceiling with remote control (and a spare remote!)
In the cab, you will find the leisure battery under the passenger seat, with a split charge relay and leisure battery ‘kill’ switch
Upgraded speaker system in the cab, including under-seat subwoofer
Extra little touches:
Handmade curtains
Handmade cushion covers
Cute wine bottle storage
Built-in bottle opener
Wall-mounted bar optic for 1 bottle
Also included:
Thule roof bars (£210 new)
T4 Just Kampers retro-style drive away awning (£500 new) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOS_aomCmjU
Bodywork and paint generally good for a van of this age, with some minor wear and tear, as you’d expect
Open to sensible offers 🙂
Please note that we’ve disconnected all the gas for the sale. The double hob is there, along with the metal gas safe with ratchet strap, suitable for a 3kg gas bottle, with 2 downward drainage holes, as well as all the piping and fittings needed to hook it back up, but it isn’t hooked up currently. We set it all up ourselves originally and have used it very happily for all these years, but we never got round to getting the installation signed off by a gas engineer, so didn’t want to sell it and have any implied responsibility for other’s use of it. It would either be a DIY job for someone, or you can take it to a gas engineer to hook up. Please shout if you have any questions!
When pulled out, the bed is a full-size double, for 2 adults. The mattress is 4 inch foam with 1 inch memory foam top layer
