Vehicle Description

MK7, Diesel, 2402 cc engine size, white.

I am now living in Geneva, Switzerland and eventually will return to the states and don’t want to go through the hassle of importing it and having the wrong-wheel drive. If it works out that you want to come do a trip and get the van then that is great :), otherwise I can possibly meet somewhere halfway near Paris to exchange it.

The van has a large bull bar on the front, and Tbar on the back.

The van has been used gently since I bought it in 2018. I just replaced all four tires on it in June 2021, and the brakes were done for the last MOT. In 2019 I had the engine rebuilt for 1600 GBP after there was a fault with the engine ladder rack. It has been running perfect ever since, and has done one trip to France and a longer trip through France and Switzerland. As you probably know from research, one of these that is well looked after can last well over 200k miles.

There are two small scratches/dents on the exterior surface, but otherwise it looks very clean on the outside. I inspected it for rust when I started converting it, and the few small spots I found were grinded and sealed.

Conversion Description

This conversion is perfect for someone who has some time to finish it and truly make it a home. The basics have been done (insulation, electrics, seating construction, bed construction, kitchen frame), but I have not had the time to finish it and no longer live in the UK. Since converting it I have taken it on one 6 week trip in Switzerland and it was great, it is completely livable as it is if you are willing to cook outside – otherwise you can place your cooker in the kitchen frame; a small amount of work to the kitchen frame and it could be completely operational – it is dimensioned to have a sink, and a cooker which rests under a full countertop. So the conversion is all very new, and ready to be finished :). There is a ton of storage – above cab there’s a massive cupboard, under benches there’s space and under the bed could fit bikes, crash pads, etc. – perks of the long wheel base model.

Details of work done so far:
I. Insulation: the living space in the van is fully insulated besides the storage space above the cab and sliding door. The floor is raised 25 mm with a batton frame and Celotex for full insulation. The cieling is also insulated with Celotex and the sides are insulated with Supasoft fluffy insulation. Everything is then vapour barrier sealed with Reflectix and aluminum tape. The electrical cables run from the control panel through insulation and pop out of the vapour barrier.

II. Electrics: There is a control panel with a fuse box for connecting cables between a 100 AH Hancook DC31 deep cycle lesiure battery and ground. I am a physicist with electrical engineering experience, so the electrics are all done properly in terms of fuses and switches. A voltage sensitive relay connects between the leisure battery and van batteries. The ceiling has 12 V LED lights, and connections for more of these to be fitted. The lights all currently run to one switch, however I have a nice multiswitch panel which can be installed to control lights separately.

III. Seating area, bed, kitchen, ceiling: the U shaped seating area can easily sit 6 people and has room to install a table in the middle (I have just been using a foldable Decathlon table. The bed is slotted so can extend out over the whole seating area, or remain unextended. The kitchen frame is constructed to support a sink, cooker, and house the battery and control panel. You can finish this frame how you want or start new. It has a few shelves in its middle section. The ceiling is mostly panelled, and would take a small amount of time to finish the panelling.

IV. Others: Fiamma roof vent; laminate floor;

Beds Description

The bed is slotted and so can expand into double its size. If it is just me I just leave it unextended, I am 1.65 m tall and fit comfortably width wise. 3 could fit on the bed but 2 comfortably.

190cm
