Ford Transit 350 LWB
Custom converted, well-maintained ex-Network Rail van. 6-speed 2.2l diesel, will typically do 550 miles on a full tank. MOT valid until 5 January 2025. 10 MOT’s to date and only three fails, on very minor points – this year the turbo system was replaced, no other major issues, van runs beautifully. I bought the van from the original owner who did the conversion. Two new 4-season rear tyres recently fitted. Last service 5k miles ago – a full service will be provided prior to sale.
This is a beautifully and very well though out hand-crafted camper, ideal for longer trips away or longer-term living. The van provides unusually large volumes of both dirty and clean storage, with a simple and low maintenance yet highly functional set up. There is a large wood-lined ‘garage’ to the rear with space for three bikes and multiple coat hooks for wet gear. This is where the 7kg propane gas canister is mounted. There are three belted seats in the front of the van, a great Bluetooth stereo with steering wheel controls and hands free phone functionality. There are three USB charging points. There is some additional storage under the two passenger seats and a recently fitted rear parking camera. In the main ‘living space’ immediately behind the front seats there is an L-shaped bench with fitted memory foam cushions which are easily removed to access storage and a compartment containing the two leisure batteries / fuses. There are lined blackout curtains that pull across behind the front seats. There is also a separate flip top seat under the bench which fits a portable cassette toilet. Adjacent to the bench is the mounting for a dining table which detaches and stores flush to the wall next to the side door. There is a second, half-sized table leg which is used with the table top to form the base for a single bed (memory foam mattress included). When the single bed is up there is still plenty room to access the fridge, stove and sink and generally move about the space. There are storage cupboards at head height all round the living space, under the hob and sink, and also behind the sink/under the mezzanine double bed to the rear. There is a blackout sky light above the mezzanine double bed which has an in-situ memory foam mattress and attractive oak step ladder to access. There are two reading lights in the semi-contained sleeping compartment which has plenty of room for two people to sit up comfortably, and multiple storage pockets on the walls. There’s an oak chopping board that folds down over the sink. A pump action tap operates the water supply from a tank to the rear of the sink, easily accessed for refilling as needed (I currently use a 25 liter plastic canister but there’s room for a larger one). There are two coat hooks adjacent to the side entrance door which has a large window. The whole van is fully lined and insulated, so even though there’s no dedicated heater, the living space heats up very quickly with the stove on (I’m often away climbing through the winter and have never felt the need for a heater). It’s an extremely comfortable set up with sufficient external and internal storage space that the living area is very easy to keep tidy and clean even with lots of bikes, climbing and outdoor gear etc. There are a few rust spots here and there but nothing significant, and with the mileage on the van being quite low it has a long and healthy life of adventure still ahead of it!
