Conversion Description

Meet Rothbert the Relay!
We started converting our van in 2018 and finished it hours before our 2019 adventure to the Outer Hebrides. We wanted our two senior dogs to have as much comfort as us and our bikes to be safely stored inside the van so this hugely affected the way we kitted it out. Fast forward to 2024 and sadly our beautiful dogs are no longer with us but we do have a new addition to the family in the form of our 14-month-old son. We now need a van that can offer him his own space and unfortunately a kennel under the bed is not appropriate 😆

Garage area is accessed through the back doors:
• Space for 2 adult bikes – bike blocks included
• Protective flooring to protect from wear and tear.
• Space over wheel arches for camping chairs, windbreaks, kites, awnings, van tools etc
• 3 large drawers offering even more storage.

Electrics:
• 150w Solar panel
• Victron Blue Solar MPPT solar charge controller
• Victron Orion DC to DC charger for charging whilst driving
• Victron Smart shunt for accurate battery state of charge information
• Victron mains charger
• 100AH Renogy Bluetooth LiFPO4 battery
• 250va Victron inverter
• Electric hook up point
• 4 x USB sockets
• Touch dimmers on 6 x main led lights
• Eberspacher D2 2KW diesel heater plumbed from the van’s fuel tank with wall mounted control
• 50 Litre Dometic CRX50 12v compressor fridge with freezer compartment
• Maxx Fan Deluxe roof fan with remote control and thermostatically controlled cooling mode

Water:
• 25 Litre internal fresh water tank – removable for filling
• 10 Litre internal grey water tank – removable for emptying
• Small handwashing sink (previously a salad bowl) with water pump and cold-water tap. Cover for extra worktop. We used a collapsible washing up trug and heated water for washing up in the van when on the road or saved washing up until we got home or to a campsite.

Gas:
• 2-ring gas hob
• 2.7kg Camping Gaz bottle
• Gas cupboard

Internet:
• Roof mounted 4G aerial
• Space to include a router to take the internet on the road with you.

Internal set-up:
• Double glazed windows with integrated insect screens and blackout blinds
• Sky light over bed with integrated insect screen and blackout blind
• Built in dog cage
• Curtains and curtain rail for extra privacy from cab area
• Removable blackout cab blinds on both side windows and the windscreen.
• Wall and ceiling covered in tongue and groove and the bed area walls and back doors have been covered in 4-way stretch dark grey carpet.
• There is plenty of insulation; recycled plastic bottle insulation, sound proofing and a vapour barrier.
• There is space in the box seat next to the sliding door for a portable toilet. We used disposable poop bags that could be disposed of with your regular rubbish. The Kamping Khazi we used can be included but you probably would prefer to buy your own!
• 2 x storage boxes underneath seating area
• 2 x storage compartments above dog cage – one large drawer and the other with a flip down door with large compartment
• Table leg fits into floor and table top slots on top – stored down side of kitchen and between seats. We also have a tripod for using the table outside.
• Kitchen has 4 x different sized drawers for storage as well as cupboard underneath sink
• Space underneath kitchen kickplate to store shoes
• On the wall cupboard over bed with two sections for storing clothes – we used packing cubes for ease.
• Smoke alarm, carbon monoxide monitor, mini fire extinguisher and fire blanket
• Electrics cupboard for switches

We have many more photos– please message and we’ll happily send them over. Also we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
