Bedford VAS 5
This Bedford coach started service in Coventry before becoming a Great Orme tour bus and then going into private ownership. It is powered by a six cylinder 330 cu. in. (5.3L) diesel engine. While only reaching a maximum speed of 50 mph it does achieve 18m.p.g. It does not have power steering but once underway the steering is quite light. The vehicle is in good condition but like any 55 year old will require regular maintenance. It is registered as an historic vehicle with coach body type and is both MOT and Road Tax exempt.
Available now for £12,000 bank transfer only.
We started the conversion in 2008 with the aim of fitting all the usual motorhome facilities while keeping the external looks of the coach as standard. Six of the original passenger seats were retained and were professionally upholstered along with the drivers seat. The bathroom and galley units are manufactured from flexi-ply to give a curved finish and the curtains are lined damask with matching tie-backs. The galley unit is fitted with a Smeg sink with smoked glass lid and inside the curved double doors is a domestic 240V fridge and plenty of storage area. No hob is fitted as we prefer to cook outdoors. Under the front seat is a Webasto Airtop 5KW space heater.
In the boot there is a 155 L cold water tank and a Shurflo water pump and accumulator pump. The 22L hot water cylinder is heated by an Eberspacher Hydronic diesel water heater. Six 110AH batteries in two switchable arrays provide power to a Waeco PP1002 inverter which connects to a mains consumer unit. The batteries are charged by a Victron Energy Blue Smart Charger. Levelling wedges, TV ariel cable and mains hook up cable are included.
For campsite or festival this vehicle provides spacious and stylish accommodation for two with a good shower and very comfortable bed. The batteries provide up to four days off grid.
A full size double bed with a proper mattress. The bed base has been designed to fold back to provide day seating but we found it much more comfortable to leave the bed permanently made up rather than have a mattress pieced together from cushions.
