Conversion Description

What better place to put up my unique and quirky camper?! Woohoo! Finally a place that embraces in daring to be different!

This is my Jurassic World Themed vehicle inspired by the Jurassic Park 2 RV. Has 2 main areas: 1 – a containment area and 2 – a command centre.

Bit of background. At the start of lockdown I had a vision of building a replica or tribute of the Mercedes ML Jeep featured in Jurassic Park 2. I did buy an old one but due to complexities, I was not able to start it straight away. I also started to have visions of the RV in that movie and thought how cool it would be to have both vehicles working together.. So when I saw this ex ambulance come up for sale, I jumped at the chance to get it. It is an automatic as well which was hard to find. I did want a Sprinter at first but soon realised how expensive they were so opted for the Ducato. I must admit, I absolutely love driving her. She is very light, nimble and you can fling her about with ease. She has no issues cruising at 70mph, or 90mph in certain parts of Europe 😉 I then started to build both vehicles at the same time and later on, another 2 vehicles, but thats a whole other story (check out the Volvo V90 listing..) 🙂

Now, back to the van as that is what this listing is for, in the real world, the containment centre based at the rear has 2 bench seats that pull out and make the bed. The table is full length and used for the middle base of the bed when required. It has been collaged with various Jurassic Park / World things. Large Jurassic World advertising poster with Chris Pratt on a motorbike, Jurassic Park movie poster and also a fabric ‘when dinosaurs ruled the earth’ banner. Under one of the bench seats stores 2 x 100 LA leisure batteries which are charged via a Renogy B2B based in the front cabin. it also has some under storage which currently has some games. USB, volt meter and 12v socket present. Under the bench seat on the other side houses the diesel heater piping with 2 vents (directing opposite ways) and also a storage area. Currently used for the table leg storage and duvets when needed. The rear also 2 Bose wall mounted speakers. Finally it has a raptor cage which is split into 2 sections. The large section is hinged and swings down from the roof and the smaller section is secured in place by come conduit.

The diesel heater is a Eberspaecher D4 which is located on the left of the bench seating. It is connected directly to the vans fuel tank and has an external 801 controller fitted. The heater was professionally recommissioned a few years ago where he replaced the motor and I serviced it a few months ago and replaced the usual serviceable items, including the glow plug.

The Command Centre is in the front. It comprises of a large desk area and sink station. The sink is a basic deep stainless steel sink. The tap is a USB rechargeable unit which has a power switch and also a pre-set 500ml option. Hand wash dispenser on the pillar. The sink top surface area is covered with hexagon wall tiles. Inside the cupboard houses a little storage area and then 2 x 10 litre water containers. The side of the unit has 2 open storage areas.

On the other side has a large long desk area. The right houses the diesel heater hidden behind a grill. It has a storage area that I use to store cutlery and the kettle etc.. It also has a section to hold the gas canisters for the cooker. Talking about the cooker, it is a portable gas stove unit that is on a pull out drawer which uses over the top heavy duty runners. On the left of the cupboard it has a tote bag secured to the side which can be used for things like keyboards or toilet rolls etc.. On the far left is another cupboard area which has a 12v mini fridge in the front, a new portable porti potti behind a door and finally a very deep storage shelf. On top of the desk area has a map of Jurrassic World which lights up showing various points on the map. Currently the green and amber lights work. I did install some red LEDs but have not connected them as yet, The lights are powered by a usb connection behind the map and switchable via the main switch board. Installed on the other side of the desk area is a monitor and laptop stand. It houses a 24inch 12v Sharp Smart TV and a laptop stand. Various power sockets are underneath to power the TV, laptop and also a multi lead phone charger.

The desk area wall is quite interesting in my opinion! It houses a quite clock, JPMP calendar (2022 but have the new one to put up), tranquiliser darts pelican case, CISCO Voip phone (not operational) and a large display unit showcasing various odds and ends during the build etc.. On the top area is has 3 DELL monitors (not connected) and 2 speakers which are connected to the rear end Sony CD DAB player. Dual lights puck units which can be either white or blue. The desk area also has an IKEA office chair.

Near the sliding door it has a metal trunk which is secured to floor and has a cushion on the top so can be used as a seat.

The van has been insulated with rolls or dial insulation and a foil vapour barrier. Then re boarded with the fibre glass panels. We had a lot of paid help from the ex’s brother in law for the woodwork as he is some fancy carpenter in the yacht industry. Most of the original aluminium panels that were installed when converting to an ambulance is still present.

The top of the cabin, where the air con unit sits has not been insulated as yet. It does hold 2 folding chairs and a folding table, sometimes a spare duvet when not needed.

The roof has the standard manual skylight. It also still has the two fan units but they are not wired up at present, the wiring terminates in the electric cupboard.

The electrics are mainly held in a top unit near the sling door. That houses the stereo, various switch units, volt meter, USB sockets and cigarette socket etc.. It also has a small storage cupboard that can be locked. Most of the ambulance wiring is present and either terminate in the cupboard or behind the drivers seat so can be reused.

A Teltonika RUT955 modem unit is located in the cupboard. It should be connected to original ambulance roof antennas. I believe the van has a 4g Puck and 2 antennas, its been a while since I played around with the wiring).

Behind the electrics cupboard houses an Eberspaecher aircon unit which I never got around to recommissioning. I believe that everything is in tact, including the aircon pulley on the engine. I just never had time, or the desire to be honest to get in sorted.

The rear lighting is via the previous ambulance LED units. They have 2 settings are spread throughout the rear of the van.

Externally the vehicle has 4 x LED scene lights (only one side connected), combi colour strobes and some green white strobes at the front. AYvale siren system is installed which can be controlled from the front cab area.

The decals can be removed easily. The vehicle is not affiliated to the movie franchise in any way.

The front cab is very basic, nothing to write home about. It has a touchscreen radio unit which has bluetooth. The visor has a rear view mirror that not connected. Original drivers seat, orange coloured. I replaced the passenger with a double seat as I wanted space for the dog to seat down. It is a different pattern than the drivers. It still has a open area so you could replace with a single seat and have a walkway to the back again.

The rear suspension is controlled by a manual valve system. separate channels for each side and the valve unit is located by the passenger footwell. The original suspension motor is still under the van but believe it requires a service and is disconnected. The van still sits on the original continental airbags

Soo many other things but cant remember them all at moment! I have many parts that will go with the vehicle including a starter motor, serviceable items, rear view camera DVR system and a whole lot more.
