The pop-top was purchased from a company in Germany called “The Overlandies” and then assembled onto the vehicle by myself. The main bed is suitable for two adults up to 6’2″ and folds away when not in use, allowing for more internal space, especially when the roof is up. The pop-top is fabric based on the sides, with bug mesh on the windows but uses the original metal roof. It is supported by 2 gas struts so it can be operated by one person and can also carry a reasonable load on the roof. There is already a 100W solar panel on the roof along with a few roof boxes. The pop-top is secure enough when closed that it can be taken off-roading. Inside there is a self-built cupboard on the left hand side, from the rear all the way to just behind the front passenger seat. There are 2 drawers for cooking equipment and multiple storage areas, each with internal lighting. A fridge is also incorporated into the cupboard and slides inside and outside the vehicle for easy access. There is 12V internal and external lighting, suitable for camping as well as a 270 degree awning with built in lighting. Underneath the vehicle is a 35L water tank with electric pump, perfect for washing dishes or showering in the middle of nowhere. If you’ve been driving for a while the water also gets nice and warm from the engine, a happy accident! On the awning side there is a drop down aluminium table and side access to the back of the internal cupboards, very useful for food preparation or anything in general. The whole conversion has been used quite a few times, once for a 6 month trip to Central Asia and back, the setup is compact but practical.
Double bed inside the pop up roof, one extra bed can be made available by unfolding the rear bench flat. The extra bed is more suitable for a child but can fit an adult if needed.
