Mercedes SprinterSWB 214 1999 W901 T1N Camper
Mercedes Sprinter SWB 214 1999 W901 T1N Camper – £8,250
I bought this van last year with travel plans in mind, but circumstances have changed and it’s not getting the use it deserves. It’s just had a new starter battery fitted, and the leisure battery is only 6 months old, so it’s ready to go with a fresh MOT.
This is a low-mileage, petrol automatic T1N that’s been professionally converted and well maintained. It drives brilliantly (for a 26 year old van) and feels solid, even after a year with minimal use, it fired up straight away with the new battery and runs as it should. It has a couple of quirks due to a disability conversion so a test drive is welcome and recommended!

Previous Conversion Details –
In a previous life this was a disabled van. There were a number of specialist controls fitted – most have been removed and the steering returned to factory setup.
– Some of the controls remain from the steering and braking system but they do not affect how the van operates, it operates as stock and there are no issues.
– The panel on the dash was used to switch from steering wheel to joystick, this was fed via a separate hydraulic pump. The pump and controls have been removed and the steering has been reverted back to factory.
– Electric throttle – switch removed but mechanics in place in engine bay.
– Hand operated brake – Disconnected from pedal brake, lever remains in place but doesn’t operate.
– Electric / switch operated handbrake
Faults
– Dash gear readout doesn’t work (assumed that this is related to the conversion)
– The Handbrake light flickers on and off and does not represent the state of the handbrake, I assume this is due to the electric handbrake being fitted and the switch no longer registering.
– Recently the remote locking has stopped working, I think this may be a battery
– Prior to the conversion there was a small fire that melted some of the door trim and seat, this doesn’t cause any issue as all critical parts have been replaced.
Condition & Recent Work –
Just before I purchased it, the van had:
– Full service
– Welding underneath
– Undersealing
– Exhaust pipe repair
The van’s bodywork is good for its age. There’s minor rust appearing at the bottom of the passenger door and a few small spots elsewhere. I’ve tried to photograph these clearly, and having had this looked at by a bodywork specialist, there is no rust in any concerning places (like the chassis, the underneath is rust free and has been undersealed about a year ago). Structurally it’s solid and has clearly been looked after throughout it’s life.
Overall –
This is a practical, compact camper with very low miles for it’s age and has all the essential features – solar, diesel heater, hookup, electrics. It’s warm in winter, comfortable to sleep in, and very fun to drive.
Selling as plans haven’t come together and isn’t financially (or mechanically) viable for me to keep it unused.
