Conversion Description

This self conversion was my home for the last two years of university, except the last 6 months due to the COVID lockdown. It features a rock ‘n’ roll bed, an slide away table and inbuilt storage. All the vans walls are fully insulated with DODOmat insulation – both thermolined foil and insulating ‘wool’ made from 100% recycled plastic. There are two belted seats in the front which provides a gap for passage between the cab and rear of the van. Next to the passenger seat, a tool box is bolted in for additional storage. All units (except the drivers side bedside unit) are made from metal including the bed itself.

First the flaws!
– Windscreen leak – The front windscreen has pulled away from the rubber seam causing a leak on the drivers side in heavy rain. I have filled with emergency sealant (due to necessity on a trip) which has recently failed. The living part of the van has no leaks just the front windscreen on the drivers side.
– Dents and Scrapes – There is surface rust from a sealed panel before my time on the driver’s side, dents from a minor rear-ender in the back doors and scratches along with the sliding door, as well as a few paint blemishes here and there. All in all, great condition for a vehicle of its age!
– The speedometer is over by 9 mph. It shows as 40mph however acutual speed is 31mph.
– It has no extraction fan, no sink/hob unit (except and included camp stove) However, the design of the van allows for easy retrofit. If I had the funds it would have had them!

The van runs off 120 watt solar charge system with a 300w pure-sine wave inverter also charging through a split relay system. A fuse board allows for easy 12v appliance connection. The lights are simple LED strings which plugged in via USB meaning the inverter doesn’t need to run to run the lights, ultimately saving battery.

The food cupboard is an old electrics box with shelves welded in. For refrigeration I used a cool box, using frozen 5lr water bottles to keep it cool. The frame the food cupboard sits on, along with the kitchen rack and electrical cupboard are old frames from an ambulance. The design allows for the food cupboard and kitchen stuffs to be accessed without the need of putting the bed into a seated position; this van was my home for the best part of a year and a half so it’s designed to work with minimal effort.

The ceiling boards are one of my dad’s old plans for theatre staging. On the passenger side of the van, ladder hooks have been implemented to secure a guitar to the side of the van. These are screwed into metal battons that run beneath the MDF covering board. However, if you don’t require these hooks, just unscrew them and fill. The metal batons beneath should provide enough support for a shelving system to be made ontop of the passenger side unit.

Spare tyre in good condition although wheel frame has dent. Vehicle jack and tools included including homemade breaker bar for the wheels (no point having a spare tyre if you cant get the flat one off!). A set of heavy duty jump-leads are also included.
As the design was built around the storage pieces I had available, they are all included in this sale, including:
– 4 grey clothes boxes drivers side (plus 1 spare)
– 3 clear 40l storage boxes (2 under bed + 1 drivers side)
– Metal box under bed
– Tool box (contains spare mirror glass both left and right and odd screws used in conversion)

Beds Description

Small double rock ‘n’ roll bed. Sleeps two comfortably, three becomes a crowd!
