Volkswagen Transporter T5 (T30) 130 TDI LWB High Roof
This van has been a perfectly practical family car as well as a camper / camping support vehicle. We are upsizing to bigger van as the family has grown. At 5.4m it is easily parked in the supermarket and it drives like an estate car. It can easily swallow 5 people and loads of gear for any adventure.
Mechanics
MOT with all advisories attended to last September. Low usage since. New front tyres.
I have had an annual lubrication service as a minimum since owning the van. It had a new head fitted at about 60k miles.
It was built just before VW started fitting DPFs, so it doesn’t have one. The engine is a 5 cylinder AXD that runs very smoothly.
Body
It has a factory fitted original fibreglass high top. There are a few rust spots which I have pictured, the worst being on the sliding door. The sills look fine. The pictured vent on the side is the kitchen sink outlet.
It has a DIY conversion by a previous owner with an Ikea kitchen at the side. The huge benefit of being able to stand up inside at all times cannot be underestimated and really offsets the height limitations. Also the roof is insulated so it is warmer than a pop top. Sink and 2 burner gas hob. Camping Gaz bottle included. Carbon monoxide alarm.
Cambee rock and roll bed, pull tested. Notably there’s lots of space underneath (no obstructions for boards) and on the rear shelf. Included is a memory foam topper.
Storage above cab, above/below bed, rear side cubbyhole and kitchen units.
Double passenger seat on a Kiravans swivel. Driver seat fixed.
Electrics
12v leisure battery 90Ah charged by 100w solar panel, alternator split charging system and 240v 10A charger. Quality 12v Isotherm compressor fridge. LED lights over kitchen and at the rear. USB and cigar lighter outlets. Electric water pump with jerrycan storage. Pioneer bluetooth stereo in the cab.
240v system using a kit from TravelVolts. The hookup point is under the bonnet and there is a RCD consumer unit under the driver seat with 2 sockets.
