Vehicle Description

1972 VW T2 Bay Window Camper Dormobile RH Drive UK for sale. Mileage 91,700
Price: £18, 000 ONO
MOT – June 2024

Viewing will be in Newhaven where she is kept

I bought the campervan in August 2020. He is now called Penny Lou. I have loved driving and using the campervan over the last 3 years. I have used her regularly and throughout the summer I have been camping most weeks and this summer spent 5 weeks travelling around Kent in her. It is with great sadness that I have to let her go but my circumstances have changed and I can no longer keep her.
Since purchasing her I have done the following:
• Installed Dormobile roof bunk covers (bought and fitted by previous owner)
• Installed rear lap seatbelts fitted
• Spare wheel
• New battery
• New starter motor
• Roof cap centre mirror
• New alternator
• Little Western Coachworks – Repair and treat rust on loading door, boot and guttering. Repair front and rear bumpers
• Oil temp dipstick
• New carburettor (October 2023)

I have had her serviced by MLT autos in Dorking who are specialists in vintage VW and had a MOT every year. He was recommended by the previous owner as he worked on the van previously.

Additional items come with the van
• Just Kampers cover
• Poles for an awning
• Touch up paint savannah beige
• Curtains for the camper
• Electric hook up cable
• Electric fire
• Gas fire
• Steering wheel lock
• Original dipstick
In addition to this I have the following
• MOT certificate
• AA test inspection from August 2020
• Agreed valuation certificate from Admiral Insurance for £23,000
• Over 60 photos of the bare metal restoration work
• All receipts for work done over the last 3 years and the receipts/MOTs from Steve covering 24 years
• Haynes manual

I have to point out that although mechanically sound, there are a few very minor paint chips and dents from being parked up and a couple of tiny rust bubbles on the sliding door and roof gutter – but the can is very solid.

It is with a lot of soul searching, I have come to the bold decision to sell this beautiful van. I have owned if for 24 years and lovingly rebuilt it by hand, both mechanically and internally with only the odd garage visit when required. I have stacks of receipts with no expense spared -only the best will do and I am extremely meticulous. It is a rare example of its age (48 years old) and is a real head turner! Fitted with a 2L engine, it is a great runner and can handle hills with ease.
I originally used the van on a day-to-day bases, then he sat around sadly for 5 years unused. Approximately 8 years ago I decided it was time for a complete makeover so he was off road and its’ only the last couple of years since fully restored that we have taken him out for a few trips in the UK. Since the full restoration he has only covered around 2,000 miles with now an original mileage of 82,745 since new. All trips went like a dream without any problems whatsoever. I have the history of receipts etc and old MOTs going back since purchased 24 years ago. Whoever bus him will have nothing to do, he is kitted out and ready to roll. I’ve pretty much replaced everything but feel it is now the time for a new home where he’ll be loved and enjoyed for many years to come.

Now the interesting bits:

• No welding on any of the chassis, still absolutely solid
• Fully undersealed and wax oiled
• Original fully operational pop top
• 8 years ago underwent a bare metal restoration
• New front end
• New front door arches
• New front doors
• New sliding door sill
• Rear arches left and right
• Rear quatres
• Battery trays
• Window delux seals
• New door rubbers all round
• Fully stripped out inside and painted in VW Classic
• White above window roof etc
• Re-sprayed Savannah Beige externally (I was a professional paint sprayer for over 25 years)
• Fitted new internal furniture including rock n roll bed

More recent work includes
• Fitting independent adjustable rear suspension
• 6 ridded reconditioned gearbox – on the best
• New adjustable front beam
• New arms and ball joints
• New disks and pads
• New rear drum/shoes
• New hand break and heater cables
• New electric fuel pump regulator
• New electronic ignition
• Reconditioned starter motor
• New stainless-steel exhaust
• Leisure battery split charge
• Invertor – fuse board – control panel
• Dab stereo
• Refurbished wheels and new tyres

As you can see, the van has been loving restored and I have a stash of receipts of thousands of pounds to prove it. It is a fantastic drive and a real looker. To be brutally honest, he is a fantastic looking van.
