Vehicle Description

Listing updated 14th November:-
– MOT status, including advisories
– Price (Open to offers)

Original 1.6TD was replaced with Golf GTI petrol which has run perfectly since it was installed in 2016.
All photos taken day of original listing. Streaks on bodywork are due to my bad clean in the cold today. Mileage is total, not reset with new engine.

VW T25 1986

High spec high top T25 with lots of space and storage. Has been fantastic for the family for nearly 10 years. Lots spent on it (solar, gas thermostatic heating, 135AH lithium leisure battery, GTI engine, WiFi mounting, power steering, recently resprayed etc etc (all details below)). Kids now older and it’s not getting used. I need to sell and replace with a low insurance car for kids driving lessons. Importantly, I keep meaning to get a few jobs done before I sell, but having failed to do much all summer I am now listing for sale and will list all needed work I am aware of. I may edit listing if/when I get any jobs done. Will be also be listed elsewhere and no longer be available for sale.

ENGINE
• Engine: VW AGG GTI 8V Engine installed: 2016. Extracted from Golf GTI, refurbished and professionally installed by a T25 specialist that had already completed 32 of the same conversions.
• Has been very reliable, does not lose oil or water and does not overheat. Only issue has been the thermostat cap which was brittle and caused a coolant leak last year. I would have changed the cap sooner if I knew they were prone to breaking, apparently very common due to original brittle material used. Obviously replaced with modern cap to prevent same issue.

FRIDGE
• Fridge: Dometic Weaco CRD50. 50 litre front door fridge. Compressor fridge runs off solar / 12v (or indirectly from 240v mains on site). Very economical, can leave it on all the time with solar. Includes freezer compartment that can be removed for additional fridge capacity. Professionally installed 2022.
• As you see in the pictures, the fridge is not fully set into the cabinet: my plan was to have my carpenter brother build some cabinet work around the fridge including a pull out drawer for cutlery etc. I ‘think’ the fridge could be set further back, but I have not tried recently.

BEDS
• Double downstairs. Rear seat lays flat to create double bed and seat cushions create comfortable mattress in only 3 sections. Screw in two legs and simply lower into position.
• Upstairs, full width bed with high roof. When not in use, full roof height available, allowing standing room between cab and rear bench seat. To convert to bed, simply pull the hard section forwards that lives in the roof. Sits firmly in a custom ridge and will not fall out.
• Hammock for child: a 3rd bed has mounting points installed in the cab. Remove headrests on front seats and clip the hammock into the mounting points. Was great when youngest daughter was younger. Metal extending brackets and a canvas hammock
• Has slept 6. 1 child in hammock, 3 upstairs, 2 adults downstairs.
• Note: standard porta potty 335 toilet fits perfectly under the downstairs main bed therefore out of the way, but available for use at any time.

ELECTRICAL
• High quality solar panel on rear flat roof section. Professional installed 2022 by Sunstore. This panel replaced a flexible panel which was installed on front sloping roof. I should have heeded all the warnings about flexible panels! Panel keeps up with all our needs: fridge, charging, water, heating etc. I have not (yet) removed the tape from the roof which held the old panel.
• Leisure battery: Rolls 135AH. S12-135 LFP Low Profile. Note with lithium, 80% of the capacity is available for use and protected by electronic battery management system, therefore significantly more available electrical power than AGM or other leisure battery. Installed in dead space under kitchen, therefore not taking up usable space. Professionally installed 2022. Never goes flat, charges from engine battery, 240v and solar.
• Solar regulator: MPPT PTR Tracer AN Series with remote monitor (fully installed near A frame behind driver). These regulators maximise charge effectiveness whilst providing a high level of protection for the battery. Remote monitor screen is installed at eye level above sink for easy viewing of current charge state and visibility on speed of solar charging. All regulators, panel and lithium installed professionally by Sunstore.
• Victron Orion-TR Smart 30A DC-DC Charger. Professionally installed 2022
• 240v sockets fed from 240v hook up
• Cupboard Lights: all cupboards have rechargeable PIR cupboard lights that illuminate the storage for ease of use
• 2 movable LED spot lights in the rear bed section for reading / adjustable lighting effects.
• 12v electrics extend into the centre console (which is removable if prefered). Provides lightening (iPhone) and USB-C power to dashboard mount which takes phones or tablet for navigation and entertainment. Also provides power to an adjustable high level light and mounting point for Netgear WiFi module (not included, but happy to provide more details)
• Music: JVC Bluetooth / DAB head unit. DAB aerial installed on front windscreen. Microphone installed on side of dash. Connected to leisure battery for site use. 2 speakers in cab doors and 2 in panel above rear seat
• Reversing camera installed with LCD display permanently in place on dashboard. Powered from centre console, fully fed wiring not visible. This has just stopped working. Did happen once before and I had accidently pulled a wire. I have not looked (yet) this time.
• Utility panel by kitchen/bed offers multiple charging options: 12v USB and a battery charge display. Is switchable.

VAN
• T25, same length as current VW vans, but more internal space due to the flat cab as a result of the engine being under the rear. Front seats are further forward than modern vans which creates additional space in the rear.
• Resprayed: 2022
• Roof vent replaced 2020 and includes insect mesh for when left open. Mesh can also hold a small towel to block light when sleeping
• Internal carpet lined which aids insulation and is cosy. I have not quite finished fitting it correctly in the centre under dash, so the black panel is a bit lose. An easy job with a little time. The portions for the seat bases were not installed, but are included in sale. Note: footwell portions are not glued, pending the footwell welding noted below.
• Rear seat has two seat belts (one manual adjustment and one automatic) and headrests (sourced to match the front headrests)
• High top stripped and re-coated 2020. Very bright white and clean now! I have just given it a quick brush and wash with a hose. Would benefit from the same again, but using some soap or similar.
• Windscreen: replaced 2023 due to stone chip in drivers view.
• Door panel cards replaced 2023
• Dash tidy installed from Just Kampers
• Wide rims and tyres installed. Reduces wind effect when driving in high winds and useful in muddy fields when camping! Rims would benefit from a tidy up.
• Both front seats swivel. Passenger seat fully swivels to face rear. Drivers seat partially swivels just enough to sit on.
• Awning: Fiama 3M F35 with pole for extending and centre rod which prevents rain gathering in the awning. Mounting points at bottom of legs for pegs. I may be able to locate a full awning for it.
• Curtains. All round matching curtains, although the cab curtains are not currently hanging because we use an external Just Kampers T25 thermal screen which retains heat, eliminates all morning sun and eliminates any lost usable space caused by hanging curtains. All curtains and thermal screen included.
• Cushion covers: covers installed that match the curtains, plus waterproof zip on strong grey over-covers (largely because of the dog!). They grey covers are in place for all 3 sections of the lower bed (bench seat, seat back and boot) which looks good.
• New mats 2023: Black. Driver and passenger, plus centre console for easy cleaning.
• Black hard wearing floor mat installed. Like a low pile carpet, but very hard-wearing and can be brushed / hoovered easily without any risk of damage
• Table: mounting hole in van floor for chrome table leg (stored in rear cupboard). Table hangs under the overbed storage (rather than taking up space / getting in the way)
• Bike Rack: Fiama T25 bike rack.
• Rear door struts replaced by stronger struts that can still lift rear door when loaded

STORAGE
• Loads of storage space: huge overcab cupboard, overbed cupboard, underbed cupboard, under kitchen, rear side cupboard. High top has a removable net allowing use of whole space as storage whilst driving. Rear seat is sited to create a huge boot space behind.
• I painted all the cabinets. I have the tin used to go with the sale.

WATER
• Decent size stainless steel combined sink and hob/grill unit
• 12v Electric automatic tap for water to sink
• 20L fresh water supply easily accessible under sink
• 5L grey water tank (or leave the grey water pipe in the floor hole for self-draining)

GAS
• Gas locker: ventilated gas locker. Takes either Calor or Flogas 3.9kg cylinders, therefore no worries about the changes in the Calor gas range.
• New gas pigtail and regulator installed professionally by Sunstore 2021. This is latest safest install type and also enables you to easily change cylinder type by simply changing the connecting cable. Easily switch between FloGas/Calor Uk and Campingaz if you go to Europe for extended period.
• Thermostatic central heating: Propex Heatsource HS2000E LPG (butane and propane) & mains 240v heater. 3 power levels: 500W, 1kW, 2KW. Installed 2020. We have camped in the snow several times. Takes only a few minutes to heat the van and then maintains at your chosen temperature, automatically turning off and only coming back on when temperature drops. Also can blow cold air in summer. I was surprised by how economical it is with gas, especially with the thermostat ensuring you don’t waste any gas. With electric hook up of course, you wont use any gas. Control unit is installed in the utility panel by the kitchen/bed for easy convenient control.
• CO / Smoke monitor: replaced October 2023. 10 year life
• Two burner gas hob and grill.

INCLUDED
• Wheel chocks for uneven ground to ensure a flat van / bed
• 240v hook up cables

PENDING
Items you might like to finish (unless I get them done before sale):-
• Fridge install was not completed. Is fully connected and works. However I was planning to build around the surround with a wood finish and a sliding cutlery drawer in the void above the fridge. Or you could push the fridge fully back into the cupboard and simply blank off the top void.
• Metal frame for hammock would benefit from a surface clean to remove some rust patches. Or replace the hammock and use the existing mounts: https://campervanculture.com/shop/vw-t25-t3-vanagon-fold-away-front-cab-bunk/
• Some rust underneath, although not structural; footwell would specifically benefit.
• Central locking. After market kit installed. Van does lock manually, but need to review wiring to central locking units to fix an issue that the drivers door lock does not correctly fire from the key fob and sends incorrect signal to passenger door. Mechanically fine, is an electrical control issue. After market central locking units are quite cheap if replacement just seems easier!
• Drivers side mirror has been knocked. Easy to buy from Just Kampers and fit (two screws). I have now replaced both and installed.
• Remove tape on roof that was holding old flexible solar panel (flexible solar panel proved unreliable and was changed with a robust higher capacity solid frame panel which sits on the roof at the rear)
• I have replied both front bumper caps. There is a pair of rear caps in the van if you want to change those also
• You could install the rest of the cab carpet kit
• Steering rack gaiter deteriorated, although still effective and preventing dirt
– Passenger seat needs a little sewing.
– Near side rear panel has a little visible rust where panels join. Needs clean, treatment and touch up (I have the paint from the respray)
– Exhaust has a minor leak which can be repaired without replacement
– Rear tyres will need changing at some point.

Conversion Description

See main description, I have tried to list everything I can, but if you have any questions, please ask.
Porta Potti not included, because people tend to want to buy new. I mentioned in the listing because the Thetford 335 is still available and sits perfectly under the downstairs bed: https://www.thetford.com/us/thetford-support/porta-potti-335/

Beds Description

I have put 6 because is accurate, but really this is 4 comfortably. We have had 6 including 2 adults and 4 kids.
1 double bed downstairs. 2 adults. L: 195cm. L shape. Narrow section width: 112cm. Wide section width: 137cm. We always slept with heads in the wide section. Base of rear bench seat folds out forwards to create the full length bed. Very comfortable cushions from luggage area, bench seat base and bench seat back make up the bed mattress.
1 double bed upstairs. 2 adults or 2 or 3 children. W: 133cm. L: 183cm. Can be kept as full size bed upstairs, our floor can be pushed back to create standing space downstairs. Net across the shelf stops lose items falling down when driving. Works really well with a large inflatable 5cm mattress for kids to sleep well!
Hammock fittings in cab for extra small child. W: 142cm.
