Buying:
Andy helped me search for and purchase the van. In the end, we bought the vehicle through an auction Andy had access to — something I would never have considered without his expertise.
Converting:
Our conversion took place during the first Covid months of 2020. Despite us being in a different time zone, communication was never an issue. Andy was adaptable, patient, and determined throughout. He dealt with countless WhatsApp messages and constant changes to the original plan, while always keeping us updated with progress and giving advice to help us make decisions.
The result:
We absolutely loved it. We had a very specific vision and were amazed by the result. A vague request for “some surfboard storage” became a creative system that fits up to five surfboards, including boards over 8 feet long. Andy even added a surprise wine rack, making use of dead space we hadn’t considered.
The standout feature is the bed, and it perfectly reflects Andy’s creativity. He suggested a Murphy-style bed and it completely transformed the van. When folded away, it reveals a living/dining area that comfortably seats up to 8 people, giving the van a level of flexibility I still haven’t seen elsewhere. 6 years on I’m still discovering new ways to use the space — I realised I could create a separate office area with a foldable office chair simply by lifting the mattress differently. Most vans use fixed layouts, but Andy designed a space that continues to evolve over time.
6 years later:
I’ve lived in the van almost full time since the conversion. I’ve also been able to make improvements myself despite having 0 DIY experience beforehand. I see that as a credit to Andy — everything was designed logically, easy to understand, and easy to build on. Over the years he’s continued to help whenever needed, including fitting a diesel heater and answering random questions. His support didn’t end once the conversion was finished.
