2003 Toyota RAV4 2.0 VVT-i 4×4 Micro Camper / Adventure Conversion – 116k miles

Sadly, the time has come to sell my RAV4 after many brilliant camping trips and adventures together.

It’s a 2003 Toyota RAV4 2.0 VVT-i petrol with 116,000 miles, in fantastic mechanical condition and with MOT until December 2026.

What makes this one a little different is that I’ve converted it into a genuinely usable little 4×4 micro-camper.

The camping setup includes:

– Custom-built sleeping platform which converts between a full double bed and single bed
– Removable camping table
– Roof-mounted pressurised shower, using compressed air to provide proper water pressure
– Tilting solar panel, so it can be angled towards the sun when parked
– Large Thule roof box for additional camping/storage space
– Roof rack system carrying the solar panel, shower, and roof box
– The entire roof camping setup is removable, so it can be taken off and stored when the car is being used normally, reducing weight and drag
– Suspension lift
– 50/50 road/off-road tyres

One of the things I’ve loved about this setup is that you get the advantages of a camper without having to drive a van. It’s small enough to use as a normal car, has proper 4×4 capability for getting to more remote camping spots, and once parked you have a double bed, storage, solar power and an outdoor shower ready to go.

The sleeping platform has also been designed so it can be used in single-bed configuration when travelling alone, leaving more usable space inside the car.

Mechanically, the RAV4 has been extremely reliable and is in fantastic condition for its age. It has 116k miles and a long MOT through to December 2026.

I’ve had many, many good times and trips in this car and would genuinely love it to go to somebody who will use it for what it was built for.
