Brand New 2018 Citroen Relay Campervan Conversion

The Conversion

I have spent the last 10 months converting this van into a contemporary off-grid campervan for 2 in my workshop in West Sussex, near Horsham. Generally, no expense has been spared and I have designed and built it to the spec and detail that I would personally be happy with. Insulated with 50mm PIR board for comfort in cold and hot climates.

Kitchen:

– Custom made L-shaped kitchen unit, built using lightweight construction
– 22mm solid oak countertop with matching upstand
– Shaker style doors with elegant handles, soft close and magnetic catches
– Floor level LED lighting
– 93L under-counter fridge
– Stainless steel sink and cold tap (fresh water supply from 30L tank under rear bed, and waste water collects in 19L jerry can under sink)
– 2 burner gas hob with electric ignition and glass lid (supplied from a Campingaz 907 bottle in a vented gas locker)

Living Area:

– Herringbone oak effect vinyl flooring throughout
– 2 wide bench seats
– Custom made navy denim-style waterproof seat cushions with removable covers
– Slide out solid oak table
– Hinged seat bases for access to storage underneath
– Cab divider blackout curtains
– All windows are double-glazed, top hinged opening and feature retractable blinds and mosquito nets
– 2kW Diesel heater mounted under the bench seat and fuel supplied directly from the van’s diesel tank

Bed Area:

– Full size pocket sprung/memory foam double mattress (190cm end-to-end)
– Recesses at either end of the bed, covered in cotton textile for comfort
– LED accent lighting and 2x reading lights with integrated USB ports
– MaxxAir deluxe roof mounted fan with remote controller

‘Garage’ Area:

– 30L fresh water tank with lockable external fill point
– Electrical system access
– Large storage space fit for bikes, etc.

Storage Overview:

– Under kitchen
– Under bench seats
– Under bed platform
– Overhead lockers with solid oak frame rattan doors
– Above cab storage

Electrical System:

– 200Ah Renogy Core Mini Lithium leisure battery
– 50A Renogy DC-DC + MPPT solar charger
– Bluetooth app control
– Renogy battery monitor (wall mounted)
– 2000W Renogy pure sine wave inverter (connected to external hookup point and will switch any loads automatically to shore power when connected)
– 455W monocrystalline solar panel
– Charging via van’s alternator when engine running
– Solar panel will charge the van’s starter battery when the leisure battery is charged (never a flat battery!)
– Touch-activated LED spotlights throughout
– 240V socket above kitchen for coffee machine/kettle
– 2x USB A + 2x USB C charging points above the kitchen
– 12V and 240V systems are appropriately fused and isolators placed where necessary
