The van has had only one previous owner before me – the Water Board – and has been very well looked after. When I purchased the vehicle, the all-important wet belt had already been replaced.
It has a well-documented service history with 7 service stamps, with the most recent service carried out at 78,585 miles.
MOT until 2 January 2027. I would also be happy to put a fresh MOT on the van for the new owner if desired.
During my ownership, the air conditioning was re-gassed in 2025 and two new rear tyres have recently been fitted.
The cab is very well equipped, including heated seats, heated windscreen, air conditioning, reversing camera, parking sensors and electrically folding wing mirrors. The passenger seat has also been fitted with a swivel base for use as part of the living area when parked.
The heated windscreen is particularly brilliant during winter and can clear even heavy frost and ice incredibly quickly. The electrically folding mirrors are also extremely useful when parking or travelling along narrow country lanes.
The van drives beautifully and has been a genuine pleasure to own and travel in. The bodywork is in great condition for its age and there is no rust.
Hi guys, I’m Ricky. I’m a carpenter by trade and a van-life/outdoor enthusiast, and this is my third van build.
I’ve lived in this van since the beginning of 2025 and have absolutely loved it. I’ve put a huge amount of time, thought and care into it and, quite honestly, my heart and soul. Having already completed two previous van builds, I was able to take everything I’d learned from them and put that experience into this one.
It was designed as a genuine home on wheels for living, travelling and adventuring – not simply as a weekend camper.
CONVERSION & INSULATION
The van was completely stripped back before the conversion began. Although the shell was already in good condition, I treated and rust-proofed the metalwork before anything was covered.
It was then sound-deadened and insulated using recycled plastic insulation, followed by a foil vapour barrier.
The walls are lined with 5mm plywood and finished with approximately 7mm pallet wood, giving the interior a really warm and natural feel.
The floor is insulated with thick foil-faced insulation board, while the ceiling consists of 5mm plywood finished with gorgeous cork board.
Virtually all remaining exposed metal has been carefully carpeted and finished, and all of the windows are fitted with blinds for privacy.
ELECTRICAL & OFF-GRID SETUP
The van has been designed with proper off-grid living in mind.
At the heart of the system is a substantial 280Ah lithium leisure battery, charged both from the vehicle’s alternator and 300W of roof-mounted solar (2 x 150W panels).
Charging is managed through a 50A Renogy DC-to-DC charger.
The van is also shore-power compatible and has a 2,000W inverter providing 240V power when off-grid, with 240V sockets in the kitchen area.
It’s a really capable setup and I regularly use everyday appliances such as a suitable kettle and small air fryer while off-grid.
There are multiple USB charging points throughout the van, including the kitchen, lounge and sleeping area.
Lighting consists of 7 dimmable main lights, fairy lights throughout the living space for a cosy atmosphere in the evenings, plus an emergency light in the cab area.
FRIDGE
The van is fitted with an excellent 50-litre compressor fridge. It has been absolutely brilliant for full-time van life and is very energy efficient, making it ideally suited to the lithium battery and solar setup.
HEATING
For year-round use, the van is fitted with an Eberspächer/Espar D2 diesel heater.
The heater is fed directly from the vehicle’s main diesel tank, meaning there’s no separate fuel container to carry or refill.
The controls are conveniently positioned in the sleeping area – simply switch it on, set the desired temperature and you’re good to go.
Combined with the insulation, it makes the van incredibly cosy during colder weather and winter trips.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is a proper usable kitchen. Having lived in the van full-time, being able to actually cook was important to me.
It has a 3-burner gas hob, grill and full oven. I’ve cooked everything from pizzas to roast chicken in it, and it’s been absolutely brilliant.
The cooker is supplied by a 6kg propane cylinder housed inside its own cupboard with a floor-level drop-out vent.
One of my favourite features is the gorgeous hammered Moroccan copper sink and copper tap, which fits perfectly with the character of the van.
The sink uses a simple direct grey-water drain through the floor of the van, which I’ve used with environmentally friendly products. This could easily be adapted to a conventional grey-water container if preferred.
WATER
Fresh water is supplied from 2 x 25-litre removable jerry cans, providing approximately 50 litres of fresh-water capacity.
The copper kitchen tap is pump-fed from these containers.
There is also a separate gravity-fed water purification system specifically for drinking water.
I deliberately chose removable fresh-water containers because they’re incredibly easy to remove, clean and refill. You can simply carry them to a water point rather than having to manoeuvre the entire van to a tap.
LIVING AREA
The living area has a comfortable bench seat along with a swivelling passenger seat in the cab, which turns around to become part of the living space when parked.
There is also a composting toilet which neatly stows underneath the bench seat when not in use, keeping it completely out of the way and avoiding the need to sacrifice valuable living space to a permanent bathroom.
The diesel heater is situated in this area and is properly guarded and protected.
There is also a fold-down mount for a good-sized tablet, effectively giving you your own little TV for evenings in the van.
DOG-FRIENDLY DESIGN
Underneath the main double bed is something that was particularly important to me – a dedicated sleeping area for a dog, or even two dogs.
It’s effectively their own little bedroom beneath the main bed, giving them somewhere comfortable and secure without taking up the main living area.
The dog area is well ventilated and has its own floor-level drop-out vent for additional airflow.
STORAGE & GARAGE
Behind the dog area, underneath the rear bed, is a large garage/storage space.
I’ve used this for tools, general van-life equipment and outdoor/adventure gear. There’s a surprising amount of room – I can even fit my mountain bike underneath the bed with the front wheel removed, keeping it safely inside the van rather than exposed on an external rack.
INTERIOR CHARACTER
One of my favourite things about this build is its character.
I never wanted it to feel like a generic campervan, so throughout the interior I’ve incorporated antiques, collectables and upcycled pieces that reflect travel, exploration and adventure.
Some of the feature panels are antique African carved panels which I’ve upcycled and incorporated into the conversion.
The combination of natural timber, cork, copper, carvings and collected pieces gives the van a genuinely individual feel. It is very much a one-off camper rather than something that has come straight out of a catalogue.
This van has been built to be lived in, travelled in and enjoyed – and that’s exactly what I’ve done with it.
Fixed full-size double bed with a very comfortable memory-foam mattress and topper.
The bed is permanently made up, so there is no need to convert the seating area or build the bed each evening.
I’m around 5’10” and can lie comfortably across the bed without touching either side of the van.
The mattress sits on slats rather than a solid board, allowing good airflow and ventilation underneath.
Beneath the main bed is also a dedicated, well-ventilated sleeping area for a dog (or even two dogs), complete with its own floor-level drop-out vent.
