Sadly, the time has come to sell our much-loved Sprinter campervan.

This van has taken us on some fantastic adventures over the last few years. We’ve driven it through Italy and on to Sicily and Sardinia, toured Norway and northern Spain, taken it skiing several times, and enjoyed countless weekends and longer trips throughout the UK.

It’s been designed as a genuine all-season, off-grid touring van and has proved itself on everything from summer European road trips to winter ski holidays.

The only reason we’re selling is that we now have young grandchildren and need to upgrade to a motorhome with more belted travelling seats.

We’ve owned and maintained the van since beginning the conversion in September 2020. It’s been well looked after and has given us no significant problems other than the general wear and tear you’d expect from a van of this age and mileage.

🔨 THE CONVERSION

This is a self-build conversion which I originally started during Covid in September 2020. We began travelling in it in April 2021.

After using it extensively, including several winter trips, we decided after winter 2024 that the original layout wasn’t quite working for us. The original conversion still had the bulkhead fitted and we’d learnt a lot from actually living and travelling in the van.

So rather than compromise, I stripped the interior out and rebuilt it.

The second build uses Evo-Motion campervan furniture specifically designed to fit the Mercedes Sprinter, and I also took the opportunity to completely redesign and upgrade the electrical system.

The result is the current layout, which has worked really well for us.

It is a self-build rather than a factory motorhome, so I’m not going to pretend every tiny detail is perfect. There are still one or two things I’d probably do differently if I were building another one! But it’s a comfortable, extremely capable and genuinely well-tested campervan.

🛏 FIXED BED & LARGE GARAGE

At the rear is a fixed transverse double bed, so there’s no need to make the bed up every evening.

Underneath is a large garage/storage area, accessed directly through the rear doors – ideal for outdoor equipment, ski gear, paddleboards, camping equipment, tables and chairs etc.

Above the bed are:

– Six Evo-Motion overhead storage cupboards
– MaxxAir intake/extract fan
– USB charging sockets
– Adjustable reading/spotlights
– Retractable ladder for easy bed access

🚿 SHOWER, TOILET & WATER

The van has a dedicated shower cubicle with:

– Shower
– Basin
– Mixer tap/shower head
– Shower head extends and hooks into position for showering
– Extract fan
– 65-litre fresh-water tank
– Approx.50-litre grey-water tank

There’s also a Compo Closet composting toilet with built-in extraction fan.

No chemicals and no water are required for the toilet, which we’ve found particularly useful when travelling off-grid.

🔥 DIESEL HEATING & HOT WATER

One of our favourite features of the van – particularly when skiing!

A diesel air heater is fitted beneath the driver’s seat and takes its fuel directly from the Sprinter’s main diesel tank, so there’s no separate heater fuel tank to fill.

The diesel heater also provides hot water through a Bobil heat exchanger and 15-litre hot-water storage tank.

It will heat a full 15-litre tank in approximately 30 minutes.

This setup has made the van genuinely usable in cold weather and has worked brilliantly on our winter and ski trips.

⚡ HIGH-SPEC OFF-GRID ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The electrical system was completely redesigned during the second conversion and is based around quality Roamer and Victron Energy equipment.

Battery & Charging

– 320Ah Roamer lithium leisure battery
– Victron Orion XS 50A DC-DC charger
– Victron IP22 EHU/mains charger
– 2 × 115W roof-mounted solar panels
– Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 solar controller

Inverter & Monitoring

– Victron 2000W inverter
– Victron SmartShunt 500A/50mV
– Victron Cerbo GX system monitoring

It’s a very capable setup and has allowed us to spend plenty of time away from campsites and electric hook-up.

🍳 EVO-MOTION KITCHEN

The kitchen uses an Evo-Motion unit designed specifically for campervan conversions and includes:

– Built-in sink
– Mixer tap
– Double induction hob
– Thetford 90-litre 12V fridge/freezer
– Multiple drawers
– Plenty of food and kitchen storage
– Overhead storage cupboards

There is no LPG required for cooking, with the induction hob powered from the lithium battery inverter system.

Next to the shower is an additional tall storage cupboard.

📡 BUILT-IN 5G INTERNET

The van also has its own permanently installed 5G internet system:

– GL.iNet GL-X3000 dual-SIM 5G router
– Roof-mounted Poynting 5G puck antenna

Simply add your own SIM/data plan to create an onboard Wi-Fi network – ideal for working remotely, streaming or staying connected while touring.

💺 CAB & LIVING AREA

The front captain’s seats are finished in burnt-orange leather, and both swivel to become part of the living space when parked.

The cab is also fitted with REMIfront integrated cab blinds, giving privacy and blackout without having to fit separate screens or curtains each evening.

Behind the driver’s seat is a small additional living-area seat with storage underneath.

There is also:

– Overhead cupboard above the additional seat
– Large overhead storage cupboard above the cab

Please note that the additional living\-area seat is not a belted travelling seat. The van has two belted travelling seats in total.

☀️ FIAMMA AWNING & OUTDOOR LIVING

A Fiamma wind-out awning is fitted to the side of the van, providing a useful sheltered outdoor living area.

The awning also has integrated LED lighting, which is great for sitting outside in the evenings.

An electric step is fitted at the habitation door.

🚐 EXTERIOR

The van is finished in **matt grey** with custom vinyl graphics along both sides depicting an ocean/mountain scene – quite appropriate considering the adventures we’ve had in it!

The exterior setup includes:

– Black Rhino alloy wheels
– 17” BFGoodrich all-terrain tyres
– Upgraded and raised rear suspension
– Fiamma wind-out awning
– Integrated awning LED lighting
– Electric habitation-door step

The exterior isn’t 100% perfect. There are a few minor rust spots here and there, and the vinyl graphics have started peeling slightly in a few places.

I’d rather be completely upfront about this than try to describe a ten-year-old, well-travelled adventure van as immaculate.

🏔 A CAMPERVAN THAT’S ACTUALLY BEEN USED FOR ADVENTURES

This isn’t a campervan that’s spent its life parked on a driveway.

We’ve actually travelled in it.

Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Norway, Northern Spain, Ski resorts, winter and summer Olympics and UK road trips.

We’ve slept in it in the mountains, travelled long distances, cooked in it, showered in it and lived off-grid in it.

We’ve learnt what works and what doesn’t, and the major rebuild incorporated everything we’d learnt from travelling extensively in the original conversion.

It’s a van designed for a couple who actually want to go places.

Whether that’s European touring, skiing, hiking, cycling, paddleboarding, weekends away or longer off-grid trips, it’s ready to go.

👍 WHY ARE WE SELLING?

Simply because our circumstances have changed.

We now have young grandchildren and want to be able to take them away with us, so we need to move to a motorhome with additional belted travelling seats.

Otherwise, we’d happily carry on travelling in the Sprinter.

We’ll be genuinely sorry to see it go and would love it to go to someone who’s going to continue using it for what we built it for – adventures.
