This 2014 VW Crafter conversion boasts a unique walk through design and a layout that is ideal for socialising in any weather or just lounging and enjoying the views. It has all the necessary utilities for weekends away or longer term travel.
Visually, this Crafter speaks for itself. It was refurbished by Adrift Conversions LLP an official Quirky Campers approved converter from Bristol. Photos of this van can be seen on their Quirky page . It comes with 12 months MOT, the last service was done by a VW dealership, it has a recent gas safe certificate and an unladen payload of 400kg (reduced to about 180kg when you add two adults and water).
Stealthy in external style, there are 3 bonded windows with 80% privacy tint, a large one in the side door and two in the rear doors. It has ample storage space in bespoke furniture all built in-house by Adrift Conversions. Shaker style doors made from cedar with hague blue panels are tied together with genuine cedar worktops and trim.
A stylish and good sized wet room is externally clad in a variety of strip wood and contains both a shower with hot/cold manual mixer tap, extraction fan and a Thetford chemical toilet. The wet room doubles as a drying room as one of the heating vents (which can be blocked off) is directed into the space.
The kitchen boasts a large domestic sink, hot and cold tap, 240 volt double domestic plug socket, double hob LPG burner and very efficient 40 litre top loading Dometic Waeco Coolmatic CB40 12 volt compressor fridge built into the beautiful cedar kitchen worktop. Under the sink is the two way gas manifold (as required for gas certification) located for easy and quick access.
Above the cooker is a Fiamma Turbo 28 skylight fan which can be used either to extract cooking fumes or pull fresh air into the van. Above the sink is a large overhead storage cupboard with quality stays and an LED lightstrip underneath housed in a smart aluminium profile that lights up the fridge and sink, perfect when looking for particular items or doing the dishes. Five stylish downlights in the main living area are individually switched so you can set the mood or illuminate the whole van. There is also a reading light in the seating/bed area to ensure focussed light where you need it.
The highlight of the conversion is the walk through seating area that allows you to enter/exit the van not only through the sliding side door, but also through the back doors. 6-8 people could easily sit around the table for drinks or a game of cards, 4-6 could fit comfortably for a meal making this the ideal van for gathering people together. Under the seats is a large amount of storage as well as all the utilities that help make this van as comfortable as being at home. The table leg is easily interchangeable which allows for the table to quickly drop down bed with the seat cushions (included) also dropping into place neatly on top to make a large double bed. The Fiamma table leg has the optional accessory (not included) of an external stand so the table can be set up outside the van, perhaps with a couple of fold out chairs, when the weather calls for it.
Hidden neatly under the seating is an industry leading Truma Combi 6E, a heater capable of quickly and quietly warming up the interior of the van and/or 10 litres of water using either LPG housed in the gas locker next to it for off-grid living and/or mains electrics when plugged into the grid on a campsite. The gas locker
contains a 6kg Calor bottle (included). The Truma heater is easily controlled by a simple, user-friendly LCD screen which we have mounted next to the Victron battery monitor in the main living space for easy access. This unit can very quickly provide hot air and hot water for washing dishes or having a shower. It can even be programmed to ensure heat when you need it. Add the iNet ready accessory to control it all via bluetooth on your smartphone. The conversion also boasts a 70 litre on-board fresh water capacity.
On the opposite side, underneath the seating is the impressive electrical setup. Two sealed deep cycle gel batteries are wired in series to provide 200 amp hours at 12 volts. These batteries are brand new and have hardly been used.
A quality Epever MPPT solar charge controller is supported by a big 380W JA Solar Monocrystalline solar panel subtly mounted on the roof. A highly sought after and powerful Victron Multiplus Inverter/Charger (12/1200/50) provides ample power for all your domestic 240 volt electrical needs while simultaneously and automatically charging your leisure batteries while you are plugged into the grid. A programmable Durite smart relay means that as you drive you will be safe in the knowledge that your leisure batteries will be getting charged meaning that even in the cloudiest of weather, you’ll always have an off-grid source of charge.
On the end of the seating there is a water level gauge, MT50 solar display, 4 x USB chargers and a double 240 volt domestic plug socket.
The van itself has been mechanically well maintained, unlike many of its cheaper competitors, VW is a reputable brand that is built to last. It has just 100,000 miles on the clock which means it has a long life left and is a sound investment. The cam belt was done in April 2019 with 93,000 miles on the clock. At the time of its last service by VW it had a full brake service including new calipers. It also has a reverse camera and comes with two keys. The exterior is largely fine with some dents in the lower section of the sliding door and rear doors. It has only had three owners from new and has a really good MOT history.
Since I bought the van we have installed a tow bar, upholstered the seating, installed window-blinds and added an Fiamma electric awning which automatically retracts in the wind, so you can sit outside in the shade or when it’s raining. Reluctantly selling as my son is getting too big for the cab bed.
This is a perfect van to enjoy whenever you want to get away from it all, and a perfect van to rent out the rest of the time. Similar vans are earning multiple thousands of pounds each year, so don’t miss out on making your money straight back again!
Seating for 6/8 turns into a full-size double bed, very comfortable.
Cab bed for child, up to approx 5 ft

Quirky loves this style means that Quirky Campers would potentially approve this vehicle for hiring. However, Quirky have not approved a Gas Safe certificate, a Weighbridge certificate, or the vehicle's electrics. Buyers must check these themselves. For some tips on what to look out for read this. If the listing has no Gas Safe certificate, no unladen weight and no electrical sign-off please proceed with caution!
