Cetroen Relay 2.2 L2H2
12 Month MOT from 18/07/22-23
Remus the Relay is a 2008 Citroen Relay 2.2 L2H2 5 speed. Remus runs well and has central locking and heated mirrors and is easy to drive. The windscreen and a tire were replaced one year ago. The bodywork is in fair condition as it has a dent in the near side top corner and a scratch drivers side rear, nothing serious. The passenger wing mirror has some damage on the outside but this doesn’t effect its effectiveness. Painted silver which makes it look so smart, especially with the black bumpers. It is currently registered as a van with windows as registering as a campervan would require making it look more like a campervan which I have chosen not to do. I like that apart from the port holes it’s a little stealthy.
I bought Remus one year ago which had been converted by Max (please see his YouTube channel showing the full conversion process https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzzCHBY0x2M8kefbxhL9vhY7Qc9GtKyna). I have been living in Remus ever since and it has been fantastic. I bought Remus to allow myself time to save for a deposit. Renting was crushing my soul. I guess what I didn’t expect was how much I would enjoy living the van life. The freedom has been awesome and my only regret is that I didn’t travel more. Work commitments have limited opportunities and whilst I have really enjoyed myself, I have saved enough for a deposit so its time to get on the property ladder.
In January I replaced the EGR valve and at the same time had a fan replaced and some of the looming which had degraded overtime replaced. Since January I haven’t had to spend a penny on Remus who has been running really well.
Viewings are welcome.
Max bought Remus in October 2020 and completed the conversion over an 8 month period. Max built the whole van with the environment in mind. The van was first sound deadened on all the walls then there is 35mm sheep’s wool insulation all around with a vapour barrier to conceal it all. On top of that is sold pine cladding finished in linseed oil to protect it. Most of the other wood is reclaimed pallet wood which has amazing characteristics.
Fully Self-Sufficient Electrics
Max designed Remus to live in and be fully self-sufficient. It has one massive solar panel on the roof (see below for full details) 2 AGM batteries for storing all that power and also it can charge while you drive or have the engine on for extra power. This means you never need to go to a campsite if desired, and save on money. There is USB sockets, 12V sockets and even 240V sockets, so you can have 240V off the grid. The inverter is powerful enough for day to day use, the sliding door window was cut using the inverter and 100% solar power!
Kitchen
The kitchen is very spacious and has tons of storage. 2 very large overhead cupboards with hinge stays and door sensitive lighting inside, and same with the large under cooker cupboard. Then there are 4 drawers, and inside the cupboard under the sink, which houses the water containers, is a bin on the door for convenience and to maximise the space. There is a lovely deep stainless steel sink, with a beautiful handmade copper tap. Above the sink is a draining rack that drains straight into the sink and can also be used to store kitchenware when driving. There are 2 opening portholes which are great for ventilation, which have copper rails along the front to house items when driving, along with 2 shelves on the wall, and also a towel rail. There is an LP Atlantic (Voyager style) cooker which has 2 hobs, a grill and an oven. This is plumbed in to a butane gas bottle under the bed but can also be used with propane or LPG.
Dining Room
There is a double bench seat large enough to fit 2 people comfortably with a purpose made cushion. A full extension solid oak table which pulls out from underneath the bed. This seating is great for eating or working or even looking out of the door or window at the view! The window has a blind and also there are the power sockets right next to the table for laptops etc.
Storage and Design
Max designed the van to maximise space, by making the bench seat and kitchen not full depth means you get almost a meter wide floor space which means 2 people can walk around even if the table is out. The “garage” underneath the fixed bed can store tons of items and can easily be accessed from inside the van. There are 4 overhead cupboards with gas struts for convenience. There are 2 large drawers underneath the bench seat, 4 drawers in the kitchen and a large cupboard above the cab.
Heating
Remus has a Chinese diesel heater, but don’t let that put you off, these units are designed around the branded ones and all the parts you could need are all accessible. Hundreds of people use these in their vans and you can’t fault them. It kept me warm through the -6 temperatures we had in the winter no problem. Max plumbed it in to a secondary tank which means you can use red diesel which is almost half the price. They are efficient too, 1 x £7 full tank of red diesel will last you around 2 weeks or more depending on how cold it is. And the control panel is next to the bed so easy to turn on if you get a chilly morning.
