This is a quirky little camper that I’ve built myself. I wanted something small and simple that I could actually use for getting away for a few days without having to drive a big camper around. I’ve used it for wild camping in the Scottish Highlands and Snowdonia, so everything in it has been used rather than just put in for show.
The inside is built using solid wood and aluminium framing. It’s insulated, has sound deadening and is carpeted, with vinyl flooring, and I’ve tried to make the best use of the limited space without cramming too much in. It has a 20L chest-style compressor fridge, 100Ah lithium battery, DC-DC charger and an auxiliary solar panel with cable. The bed has storage underneath, and there’s a kitchen cabinet with more storage underneath and a stainless steel worktop. There are loads of fast USB charging points and 12V sockets for other bits and pieces. The ceiling lights are dimmable LEDs, with extra lights over the worktop, and there’s a shelf above the cab for some extra storage.
The inside height is around 1.4m, so most people won’t be able to stand up inside. The bed also limits how far back the driver’s seat can go, so it probably won’t suit someone particularly tall. The small size is really what makes it so handy. It fits into normal car parks, is easy to get down narrow lanes and doesn’t feel like you’re driving a house around. For me, it’s been ideal for getting away for a weekend with the dog and heading off somewhere for a bit of walking. It’s really best suited to one person and a dog, or a very cosy couple! You do have to be comfortable living in a small space.
I’m actually quite sad to be selling it. I’ve put a lot of time into building it and it’s been a real labour of love, but my family has expanded and life has moved on, so it’s time for someone else to get some use out of it. It’s not a fancy motorhome and it’s certainly not perfect, but it’s a genuinely useful little camper that’s ready to go off and have some more adventures.
