Mercedes T1 LWB
Fitted with the Mercedes million mile 2.3litre petrol engine with 5 speed gearbox. Having done only 35,000 miles she is very keen to put some miles under her belt. We get about 25 miles to the gallon on a run. The van has been inside a German fire station for the majority of its life and was imported and converted in 2021. Most of the paintwork is original and rust free. Even the spots that are usually prone to rust on the T1 are clean and original. There is no overspray in the door shuts. It’s all original. The chassis and floor are the same. No signs of any welding and we had her fully undersealed last year. She has been maintained by the German Fire Service from new. Even the front seats look like new. Power steering and reversing camera makes parking easy. The radio has been upgraded to an 8″ screen with DAB radio and Apple CarPlay or Android. The MOT was passed in March 2022. The van is LHD and registered as a private light goods (PLG). The private number plate and our roof tent are not included in the sale.
The conversion was completed in June 2021. The van was first registered in 1992 and operated until 2021 as a fire response vehicle in Germany. During this time it stayed in the fire station and was only driven an average of 1200 miles per year totalling 35000 over 30 years. The van made a great base. Its rock solid with no evidence of any welding and the paintwork is in amazing condition. We wanted to keep the van as original as possible so the conversion was done sympathetically. We kept the fire brigade branding, lights and sirens. The van was striped out and fully rust proofed. Insulation was installed below the floor, in the sidewalls and roof. The original headlining was put back and a new ply floor was fitted. The walls were lined with beech ply and the beds and cupboards made to match. Everything was sanded and sanded again before three coats of Osmo Oil were applied. There is ample storage in 4 good size cupboards and under the beds incorporating a steel lockbox bolted to the floor. Bed cushions and black out curtains were made along with a removable Birch ply table with a single pedestal. This is stored in its clips behind the passenger seat. A leisure battery, split charge and 240v electrics were professionally installed along with a Dometic CRX 50 compressor fridge and 8″ screen with DAB radio and Apple CarPlay. A new towbar with single electric completes the fit out.
The rear seating slides and converts into a large king size double bed or can be set up as two single beds. The cushions are made from comfy memory foam with olive canvas and matching piping. These were professionally made in 2021 and are as new. The neat blackout curtains fold down from above a make a lovely quiet place to sleep. The rear cabin is fully insulated and has reading lights above.
